I needed a bed for one night in a central San Diego location. Yes, the TV was old and small, and the remote didn't work. This wasn't really a concern for me. The shower was hot and powerful, the bed was comfortable, I felt safe in the room (single female traveler). I did not pay the rack price, and hence found this to be a good value.

  • The hotel was amazingly comfortable and close to the Gaslamp Quarters!

I would definately stay at the Porto Vista again if I was given the chance. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were very plush! Since we were there for a night, we didn't have a chance to check out the restaurant/lounge at the hotel. It was within walking distance to the historic Gaslamp Quarters of San Diego, and the staff was very helpful in directing us. The room we stayed in had a balcony that had a lovely view of a park. I would surely recommend this hotel to anybody that is staying in San Diego; it was well worth the money.

The room was small...but if you plan to get out and see down town San Diego or the surrounding areas you are just a few blocks away so the size of the room won't matter much. A block from Little Italy. I plan on staying here again in the future.

For the price, this is a decent hotel. But there is old carpet in the rooms. The maid kept turning off the air conditioning every day so when we would return, the room was very hot. The vanity in the bathroom is a standalone one, making it difficut to use your toiletries. The "suite" as they like to call it, is extremely small with just a small fridge and microwave placed on the floor. The room did not have a great view of the Harbor. It is still five blocks away with buildings in front. They charged $5.00/per person for shuttle. It should be complimentary. There was no continental breakfast, either. But it was close to some restaurants in Little Italy. And it was quiet at night. If you're willing to sacrifice a little luxury for price, then yes, stay here. But you may want to stay closer to downtown. If you do stay here, don't use the valet parking at the hotel. Park on the street. It's free after 5:00 M-F and free all day Sat and Sun.
