The hotel was clean, smelled a little of smoke, and was okay. On the bad side i was woken up every few hours to the rumble of trains, not just the sound but the shake. It is so bad they give away ear plugs at the desk in a little basket. Even that was okay until I woke up in the morning with my window busted out and a bunch of my dirty clothes stolen. Talking to the police apparently it happens commonly in that parking lot. The hotel staff was very nice calling the police, giving me tape, boxes, and bags to cover the window. Despite the decent staff and clean room no way would I recommend this place. Stay at a hotel with better lighting and away from the tracks. Consider it an investment in window glass.

I had originally scheduled a 3 night stay after reading the reviews. When I arrived, the lobby was locked and I was forced to check in through a window. The young lady, and what looked liked her friend, appeared to be inconvenienced by my checking in. However, the lady who checked me out the next morning was particularly pleasant. I guess they break even there. The only major concern would be the noise from the freeway and train. As I tend to use earplugs, I knew that this would not be a problem for me. I think they even offer them for free. My problem was with the room itself. They were not nearly as clean as I had hoped. The first thing I noticed upon entering the room was a stench of old sweat and feet. The raggedy old couch and carpets were grimy and dirty. Had I not been so tired after driving down from Oregon, I would have checked out immediately. I cancelled the rest of my stay and went over to La Quinta where I immediately took a shower. The Super 8 is your typical "number hotel". Theres nothing wrong with that, just not what I was looking for. I was just fooled into thinking otherwise by the positive reviews. There's a reason it's at least $* cheaper than the surrounding hotels.
Good deal... close to freeway.05/26/2009

Not bad... the only complaint I can come up with is that the middle rooms are a fair distance from the parking lots... if you have a lot of luggage you are going to get a workout. Everything was clean and the rooms are pretty good for the price. The breakfast was average.

Have family all over this valley and this hotel was centrally located. Great freeway access and close to shopping, great mall and restaurants. I know the area but Modesto is a big town and easy to get lost in if you don't know it. The key is its on a grid. Easy to get around. Had a two bed room. Asked for a non-smoking but hotel was booked so had to take a smoking. I would recommend the hotel put better air filters in these rooms for these instances. Room was very clean and easy access from parking lot. Well lit parking lot. Got very full at night but this was expected. After reading the reviews i expected the train noise. I was not bothered by the freeway but the train came every two hours on the dot. Not too bad but if you are a light sleeper do take advantage of those free ear plugs. Price was better for this type of hotel that any other in town and I was very pleased with my choice (in spite of the train =))

We travel to the Central Valley to see our kids alot...this was our first time to stay at the Motel 8. The rooms were great...nice, neat, clean, comfortable bed...but the noise from the freeway and train was awful....the good thing about the room....once you shut the door....you hardly heard anything. Just don't try to talk once you step out the door.
