Based on the desire for several items hard to come by in NYC at bargain prices (two beds, own bath, clean, locattion), this met the mark. Hotel is small and rooms are old, but very clean, right on Broadway and Times Square, very kind and helpful staff. Not a single complaint. If you want cheap, clean, and safe at a decent theatre district location, this is it.

This is townhouse-style hotel with many floors. It has two small elevators so that sometimes there is a wait to go up or down. It is an old hotel, so there are issues, such as not being able to take a bath (only a shower) because there was a leak into the room below. The room was large and very adequate for a family of four. There were very few amenities. No food, but excellent Delis right next door. The internet was free, but very slow in the room. It seemed to be faster and acceptable in the lobby. A huge plus is the excellent location in the Theatre District.

If you are on a budget and need a hotel to just sleep in, this is the perfect place. My mother and I visited Times Square for the first time in December and this hotel was perfectly located. Just a few minutes walk from the heart of Times Square, right down the street from many theaters in the Theater District, and probably a 15 or so minute walk to Rockafellar Center. We stayed for two nights and did not need to take one cab, everything in Times Square is in walking distance. The quality of the hotel is good too. An old fashioned place with actual keys to unlock your room. The room was on the small side but it was there for what we needed it to be there for - sleeping. Because of the location and cheap price, I would absolutely stay here again.

This is a small hotel in a great location. Regardless of the size of the hotel this is a great hotel that i recommend and will definatley visit again. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was great. Newely remodled room with two double beds. Free wifi. Had a great view of the steet with police presence everyday. Its located next to two great locations to get food one of which is open for 24hrs. and near a 24hr pharmacy as well. This is not a luxury hotel so don't expect ammeneties. We booked this hotel for the location and price and it being only 2 blocks from time square we got what we wanted. I will definately be returning to this hotel in the near future.

We arrive for a girl friends weekend with some concerns due to the reviews we read. How a wonderful surprise with our stay at the St. James. We arrived earlier than expected and checked in without any problems. The staff was super attentive and helpful. Our only down was the paperthin walls causing us to hear everything from our neighbors. The closeness to Times Square was insane and super plus for our purpose!! I will definitively will stay again in my next trip to NYC!!
