This hotel was the perfect throwback to the beachside motels of yesterday but was brand new, comfortable and very accomodating. It sits right across the boardwalk from a great family beach in a charming old school beach town with a newly refurbished kind of feel. Good restaurants and gift shops too. Great for an extended weekend with your kids. They also have concerts on the beach at certain times of the year. Can't wait to go back!

Our family, two adults and two teens, spent a Friday night at the Avila Lighthouse Suites in April. We gulped at the $*** price for one night in one of the oceanfront suites, but thought we'd splurge. The suite was spacious; king bed with balcony overlooking the ocean and a queen pullout, the two rooms separated by a decent sized double sink bathroom. The room looked nearly new and the furnishings were pleasant. Each room had a large, modern TV with the usual cable channels. Our only criticism was the pullout, which had a very thin, uncomfortable mattress. Outside of the room, the hotel has a beautiful pool/hot tub area with plenty of lounges and chairs that is thoughtfully windscreened. There are also two ping-pong tables, a small putting green, and a big outdoor chess set. There's a nice lobby with a computer hooked up to the internet (free) and a wifi connection. The hotel also has a small fitness center. The included continental breakfast was very good with a great assortment of pastries, cereal, waffles, fruit, juice, yogurt and coffee. Coffee and tea were always available in the lobby. Parking was indoor and free. The location couldn't be better, directly across the street from the beach and adjacent to the small, walking-only Avila beach shopping/dining area. Fridays happened to be the night of the Farmer's market, so there was live music and numerous restaurant booths. The staff was friendly and helpful. Aside from the uncomfortable pullout sofabed, we had a very pleasant stay. You can save a few bucks by choosing an ocean view suite or a park view suite. We'll stay here again.
