Upgraded to "privilege" and certain aspects were definitely worth it including upgraded liquor, free internet in the room (even though you had to call for a new code every few days and that usually took 3 or 4 trasfers before anyone knew what you were talking about) and the beach cabanas. The service was not very timely and often ignored. Everything seemed to be on "dominican" time. We are used to staying in nice hotels in the States that when you call down for something you actually get it. We even had them call us to see how things were and if we needed anything and mentioned the liquor we would like replaced in our room and never saw it. The food is fair at best. Just wanted something that tasted familiar (beef that tasted like beef and so on). The Mexican restaurant was definitely the best. Maybe expectations were too high as we had never done an all inclusive outside of the States but I can tell you we won't be doing one ever again. The lanquage barrier was a problem alot more than I thought it would be. So many employees did not speak or understand english even when there are an awful lot of english speaking guests. Many were waiters too whom you had to communicate with. While it was very clean and an incredibly beautiful beach, we would not return. Too many beautiful places in the US without the hassles of the language barrier, poor food and constantly hustling of people on the beach and even the lobby for timeshares and booking tours.

My wife and I have travelled to this resort four times on our own and most recently with another couple. We have gone twice in spring and three times in november-december time frame. Every time has been exactly the same experience - solid. Awesome food good quality beverages and friendly helpful staff. One of our stays was with a Privilege upgrade -- better wine in the minibar and one meal at the beach lobster restaurant a separate beach area but otherwise we really couldnt tell the difference and have since booked regular rooms. I have no idea if they really know were repeat guests. The beach is very well maintained and the grounds are meticulous. The timeshare sales pitch staff varies from year to year in their level of insistence but generally leave you alone. Any complaints about water pressure in the shower have been resolved immediately and they have always been accommodating in getting us a room either closer to the beach. The mix of guests are mostly european russian and canadians. The onsite restaurants serve almost identical food to what is available in the buffet -- so we dont even bother going to them anymore. Remember the secret to happiness is managing expectations.

The whole place was simply amazing. if you decide to stay here go to Mike's coffee shop, they have the best beverages for free and if i had to pay for them i still would say they are the best! the place was huge, you could either walk or take the little transit bus that circled the entire place. i would stay again.

The hotel was beautiful on arrival-concierge/staff greet you with a cocktail and refreshening towel! It is called Ocean Blue and Sand not Ocean Blue Golf and Beach, as reported. The staff will come off overly helpful and thankful-but this is due to tip expectation. They list all prices within the resort in USdollars, though the country uses pesos. Recommend tipping in USdollars, but buy Pesos. Purchase whenever possible in pesos. They charge you more when you use USdollars. The conversion was better when we paid in pesos. For instance WiFi internet was $* but * pesos, which was equal to $*. If you use your credit card, they will charge you in USdollars and hit you for a per transaction fee of $*--they don't tell you this when you use your card. It's not a USbank fee, it's the DR's. If you insist on paying in USdollars, bring lots to avoid these fees. Also, if you can, prepay for your excursions and services with travel online. Our couples massage was $*. We did the Bavaro Splash ($* US/pp)-SO MUCH FUN! Highly recommend and 4-Wheels Adventure Boogies ($* US/pp)--ATV through lots of dirt to beach and a cave. FUN TOO! Pack a Bandana for this excursion or they will charge you $* for one-it is essential for the excursion. The souvenir shop has everything listed in dollars-but can purchase in pesos. Their conversion saves you dollars. The BAD-we were checked into a dirty room, and were told to wait on the patio while housekeeping cleaned the room. Later, we attempted to shower and use the jacuzzi, neither worked-we waited 2 hours for them to fix the shower. The jacuzzi was fixed the following evening after 3 calls. We wonder how they cleaned the room without water. (SICK) Food, Beach, Pool all GREAT
