My fiance and I ended up staying at the Blue Bay Getaway for the second half of our trip and LOVED IT! Unfortunately, the first leg of our trip was at another hotel that we did not like and Hurricane Dean cut our time at Blue Bay short...we would definiately go back and recommend it for couples that want to have a good time with other adults and avoid children or drunk teenagers!! The Sexy Pool is the best!

Before me and my husband left for Cancun, I did read that the hotel was under contruction. I just didn't realize how extensive it was. When we drove up to the hotel it was unrecognizable with all the work men and boards---we actually had to get out of the travel van and walk around all of the construction with our luggage.
We had a room with a king bed but it was on top of two twin box springs. The room smelled like strong Mildew. My husband wanted to get scented candles but I told him that it would just smell like fragrance and strong mildew. The bathroom was so small that the bathroom door hit the toilet. The food was ok. On the second night of our stay, my husband let me sleep because I was tired and he woke me up around 9pm. We got ready and went out around 9:55pm to have dinner but none of the cafeterias were open. Only the two fine dining restaurants were open but you needed a reservation. Apparently, the all night cafeteria is closed for remodeling, but no other cafeteria stays open past 9:45pm. I do have to say we received a free pass for the asian restaurant and it was wonderful.
As far as construction, they never stopped working. They were even working on Sunday when we left. We tried to get past some work men on our way to the front desk and ended up knocking down a light that they had jimmy rigged on the ground.
Sometimes it was hard to communicate with the hotel staff because they could barely understand what we were saying in english. I wasn't mad about that but it would have been helpful to know some basic spanish. -

I never felt threatened or uncomfortable at any time....bar staff were all awesome they get a 10 rating in my book....the front desk staff on the other hand could not help a snail cross the road..they went out of there way to snip at you every chance they had..just dont ask them where to get ice or get a soda instead of coffee for breakfast....but on the other hand the guest's and the "zany" pool staff are awesome...oh and I can't forget the only female bartender that kept my captain pouring for me....she was more than accomodating,,,I am terrible with names but if you got past the front desk you will have a great time.!!!!! I could hop from my room (1213) onto the party bowl....would not recomend that room for honeymooners...lol....took a booze cruise down by where you get the wave runners 5**** AWESOME!!! I enjoyed the food more at the buffet every night than I did the foo foo restaurants although after a few days I had to walk across the street and get a bottle of captain morgan and I was able to carry it to wherever I wandered all in all it was an awesome visit and I would go alone again. The staff looked out for you...I went on a trip to senor frogs from the hotel and left after 2 shots and I got up in the morning and had a message on my phone from one trying to make sure I made it back ok....front desk sucks....but 10**** to all the other staff

The hotel is undergoing rennovations - it needs them - but the place is noisy right now. The room cleaning service starts early so if wasn't woken up by construction noise, by 8am I was woken up by the cleaning service. My room had ants and a leaking AC (beware, one of the other guests slipped on water from their leaking AC and hurt himself), but was generally comfortable and clean.
There beach is small and not very pretty, but the pools are ok. Pool games, windsurfing, sailing and other activities can be fun.
The food is edible and aparently safe - nobody that I know got sick while I was there. The 3 specialty restaurants - few free passes are included depending on length of stay) are better.
Service staff is very friendly, except for the day reception manager (XXX, if I recall) who is the worse hotel service manager I ever run into anywhere.
The place was a little too intense for my expectation - they try extremely hard to sell a sort of time share insisting that they only give an intro tour to the hotel (they insisted daily.)
Safety deposit box costs extra. -

Went with another couple who had been to BlueBay before, this was our first trip. Paid $900 each for round trip flight from LAX to Cancun and 7 nights at the hotel with food and drinks included. We arrived about 1:00 AM and checked in. One guy was on duty and checked in both couples in about 5 minutes. All during our 7 days the front desk never seemed tied up, they always had 2 or 3 people there. The room was recently remodeled, it was large, clean one king bed, a couple small dresser drawers, but a 4 shelf storage bin and plenty of hangars in the open closet. The room was a tile floor which gets sliipery, be careful. The room was not fancy, but functional. It was cleaned daily, after the second day I left the cleaning girl 5 bucks a day tip, I was given fresh linen and all fresh towels every day after that and it was sparkling clean. 5 bucks goes a long way in Mexico. The food was buffet style breakfast, lunch, dinner, it was ok, after a few days it got old. They do have restaurants and you have to make a reservation, the Chinese or Oriental one was ok, the Italian one was actually fantastic, my best meal was in the Italian place. The pools were great, the activity pool was hopping, action all day. The staff at the pool was crazy. The have another pool for just relaxing. Drinks were good and plentiful. In the end I felt like a got more than I paid for and we will go again.
