In short, this place was far more trouble that it was worth. The front desk clerks were rude and unhelpful, and the accommodations were shabby. I will not stay here again. After checking into our room, I realized it was not the type I'd booked. An hour and a half and three phone calls later (it was 1am, they weren't busy....), we were finally moved. The next morning, I awoke to someone trying to get into our room. Then the front desk called, asking who I was and why I was in the room. Then they claimed not to have my reservation at all. That took hours and multiple phone calls to sort out. We never had any hot water during our three night stay, despite calling the front desk multiple times requesting they send someone to fix it. The engineer, who did show up once, said "you just have to let it run for a couple of hours before you use it." Not a reasonable solution. My late check-out request (which I made and the front desk clerk agreed to on Friday for our Sunday check-out) was apparently never recorded. Then, the hotel refused to let us check out late that Sunday. The free breakfast coupon they offered after I complained about the multiple problems we'd had during our stay, turned out to be good only for the day BEFORE they gave it to me, and only for one person (we were a party of two, which they knew).

Loved the Dream Hotel! The rooms were very clean, and loved the special lighting. The front desk personnel were friendly. The free drinks in the bar were fabulous. It's a special place and in a great location. Close to Columbus Circle and only a few blocks away from Crumbs - where they have incredible cupcakes.

The Dream Hotel is, essentially an old building that has been remodeled to put guests in mind of the peaceful, soothing aspects of eastern culture. One could argue that it's just some blue lights and large pictures of Buddha, but there is something peaceful about the experience. A glowing blue light emanates from under the bed, and instead of the Gideon Bible in the drawer, there is a book on the wisdom of Buddha, but none of that matters if the rooms aren't clean and the fixtures all work. I can report that lights, water, cleanliness and helpfulness of staff rate very highly. One minor issue. The bell staff seem to have some deal with private car services, and when I asked for a taxi to the airport, the guy kept trying to get me to take one of the black cars across the street. "Same price," says he. We all know that is not true. I guarantee those guys wouldn't get me to LGA for * bucks, including tip. I wanted a licensed, professional New York taxi, and insisted on it. The bellman seemed truly hurt. A minor glitch, true, but something you would not expect from a hotel that represents itself as upscale.

Nice hotel, good service, rooms are small (wouldn't stay there more then a night or two), great roof lounge. Only thing is that its a little over the top with all the art-deco stuff. The fish in the lobby are pretty cool too!

Great location in midtown/theater district but be certain to book at minimum a king room. The standard offered at best price is one of the smallest rooms in a city known for small hotel rooms! And with a view of AC units and a concrete wall. The hotel is hip, features an adjacent Italian restaurant and swanky lounge, excercise facility and good service. I would stay there again.
