The room clean, but smelled of stale smoke. I found it interesting that they made me sign a paper stating that there would be a $* charge if I smoked in the room. The bathroom was very small and could use some re-caulking. The room itself was fairly nice - not very big, but it met my needs. I would like to complain about the blackjack dealers and pit bosses on the morning shift. Maybe it was because of putting up with drunks all night, but they were boardering on rude. They would not smile or even answer a direct question from a couple of players. Perhaps they don't realize that they get tipped better when they are nice. I witnessed this on 2 mornings. I did have a nice dealer in the afternoon shift when I arrived. Another complaint is the hotel room had no safe. So I had to decide whether it was better to walk around with all my cash or try to hide it in the room. I opted to carry it with me. I liked the proximity to Fremont St Experience and it was a huge party at night. I also liked that El Cortez had security posted right outside the doors on Fremont St which made it more comfortable to walk around with large sums of gambling money in my pocket. I also thought the Cafe at El Cortez was overpriced. Cheapest breakfast there was $* while up at Fitzgeralds, they had $* for 2 eggs, toast, and homefries. Overall, I thought it was a good value (buy 2 nights get 3rd free). I stayed Thu, Fri, Sat which meant my Sat was free - which was nice because it is normally a more expensive night.

We have been staying at the El Cortez for years. We always stay in a Tower room where the rooms are nicely decorated and very convenient to the Casino. The bathrooms are rather small but clean and sufficient. The entire hotel and casino staff are very friendly. This isn"t an expensive or fancy strip hotel and the denizens in the casino can look a little rough but we never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. Also we noted that many of the same people who have worked there for years are still there. That tells me the management must be doing something right.

I stayed in a Vintage room. Small room but very clean and confortable. Bed was great, a one cup coffee maker with coffee, mints, newspaper, shampoo & conditioner. Had two minor problems, called desk at 5am and was fixed in 5 minutes. Had to walk one flight of stairs from casino to room but there was an exit into the parking garage with elevators. So our car was a very short walk. Maybe 50 yards. It was very quite and clean. I will return for another stay.

We have stayed in many places on Freemont Street. We were a little worried because the El Cortez was on a side street. This was by far one of the best experiences we have had in downtown Vegas. All though the travel company charged us for two rooms, we were only booked in one. The El Cortez staff went above and beyond to make sure we received our 2nd room. Was extremely impressed with our room. Will definitely be staying here again.
