The developers have done wonders with this charming old building. The hotel recently acquired a new general manager, who was with another 4-star hotel. This GM is a dynamo when it comes to turning a fledging hotel into a great one. His super PR skills, and hotel industry experience is badly needed here. He has his work cut out. I’m hopeful he’ll make a lot of necessary improvements. He’s well on his way; he’s made some staff changes, replacing the valet service, which was awful, getting the restaurant up, and running, smoothly. Given time, there is no doubt this hotel will soon be where it should be. The hotel rooms are small, a bit dark, and skimp on toiletries. The hotel is located near the ballpark.

the hotel was well decorated, clean and trendy. the location was perfect for anyone with court business, because it's a short walk to several courthouses-ditto for the theatre district. The room was small and the lighting too dark for trying to read over legal documents. the beds and bedding were divine. The restaurant was expensive, but the food was very good.

My husband and I stayed here in April 2009. The staff seemed sort of aloof and unhelpful, but the accommodations were fabulous. It was within very close walking distance of the MetroRail red line and several downtown restaurants (we ate at Cabo, which was so-so.) The exterior was older and charming, but the interior was fully modern and very stylish. The bed has to be one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The carpet was clean and the AC was good and cold. The view was fantastic as well, there was a nice view of downtown Houston, nice enough that I slept with the blinds open that night just to watch the glowing buildings. The in-phone room was a little cordless, but that was irrelevant as we just use our cellphones, and the TV was a little outdated and the cable reception wasn't so great (I would have preferred a flat screen and it wasn't.) The bathroom was solid granite and super clean and the Aveda bath products provided were a nice touch. My complaints are few; the first is that I'd booked a room w/ a bathtub, and instead got the smaller room with a walk in shower but I shrugged it off and never complained to the staff, so I don't know how they would have handled the mix up; the second is that the valet parking was overrated, 25 bucks for a guy who barely speaks English to pull it around the side of the building into an unsecured and shady looking parking lot. However the rest was great, and again, the bed was so very comfortable! Down pillows and a huge down comforter! I could have snuggled in that forever!

The hotel was great, nice room, excellent bathroom. The bar in the hotel served great drinks. Went to a concert about a mile down the street which they provided the shuttle(a sweet suv). Didn't get to sample the food...had to good of time. The only thing I would like to comment on is the cost of vale parking...$25, you can't go any other way. Booked online...cheaper then the hotel itself.
