I thought this hotel was a lot of fun. It was laid back and very modern all at the same time. I liked the pool area and all the beach balls in it. The bed was great, too.
We really enjoyed our stay!11/26/2007

We did not get to the hotel until almost midnight. The bellman warmly greeted us and there was someone right there to help with check in. We dropped off our luggage and went straight the the Beach, a rooftop bar. It was so relaxing, just whaty we needed after working all day and then flying in. We kicked back in front of the fire pit with our drinks just basking in the warm glow. If you can't be at a bonfire on the beach, this is the next best thing. The bedroom has a giant chalkboard. My husband wrote me a love note. The bed was was very comfortable. We would stay here again.
I WOULD STAY HERE...again...09/26/2007

My husband and i decided to take a swanky weekend love trip to san diego for our 1 year anniversary & Let me tell you WELL WORTH it.When you enter the hotel there are large leather lounge chairs where you can grab a drink and play chess or checkers, of course we had to play a few rounds of checker while had a few beers watching people pass thru after our drive from hectic la traffic. The room was so hip and had the neatest bunch of tempting treats...I induldged in the dark chocolate coco bon ginger snaps with some vanilla green tea...YUM! i loved the in the window seating area with the magazines and the chalk board in the room that i drew on. very relaxing. WHile the pool was small ...it didnt really matter the way its organized next to the work out room was perfect to me. the staff was great. I recommend breakfast at RICE..get the spicy tortilla poached eggs..so good. Great place to stay!

Staff and service were excellent! The rooms were unique, very comfortable and clean! Although this hotel seems to cater more to a younger crowd, we enjoyed our stay. Wish the pool area was larger and not so obstructed to the sun and sky. Would definitely stay again.

One of the "coolest" hotels in San Diego, the W is best known for its open-air "beach bar". However, if you are hoping for a quiet, relaxing night in your room, make sure you are not overlooking the bar, as it's loud until 1am on weekends. The decorations & furniture throughout the hotel are phenomenal--very attractive & stylish. The pool, however, is small and poorly located. The fitness center has all the basics, but is short on extra space. The other downside of the hotel is the $*/night valet parking charge. Perhaps the biggest positive is the bed--probably the most comfortable bed & pillows I've ever slept on!
