We stayed Jan 8 - 13th and were very impressed with the W. First off, the hotel itself is very modern, cool, and well-decorated. I love the Beach Bar upstairs, it was truly a fun and unique experience. Well heated with heat lamps for those chilly nights, and they actually do a happy hour from 5-7 I believe (1/2 price appetizers). The hotel itself was an incredible experience. From the moment we walked in we were treated the way guests should be. The front desk was SO polite and friendly, very welcoming and attentive. They checked us in immediately with no hassles and usually you have to FIGHT for an upgrade, but the front desk lady was so polite she placed us right on the 11th floor away from the elevators as requested. The next evening I asked if any rooms on a higher floor had opened up and the manager was SO accommodating, he immediately moved us to the available room they had on the 17th floor with a VIEW!!! This itself was 5 star service. The rooms itself are modern and very cool, I really loved the beds here. Sometimes when you stay in a nice hotel you're surprised to find a rock hard bed with sandpaper sheets - NOT here! The sheets were SO soft they reminded me of home, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Furniture and amenities are so cool. Room service was quick and attentive (we ordered towels and coffee a few times and they zoomed it up under 5 mins). Overall, I would definitely stay at this location again, and I highly recommend the W. One huge plus is they provide a FREE service from Acura, where a nice new Acura car will drive you ANYWHERE within a 5 mile radius ONE-WAY. This saves so much on cab fare! It would be nice if they picked you up too, but having them take us to Old Town, Balboa Park, and all over the gas lamp to eat was a HUGE plus and saved our feet from lots of walking. The one and only drawback is the noise. It is built like an apartment where you can really here *everything* next door. We just so happened to be staying next to really quiet people or no one, because one of the evenings I heard a TV or music on and could hear *everything* even the lyrics through the wall. Luckily they were polite and stopped playing music very early.

The decor which is supposed to be modern looked more like the clearance aisle at target after all the good "back to school" dorm room stuff is gone. This is way below the standard expected from a W hotel. Everything was way overpriced and no amenities were included.

Where do i start? The safe was broken and had to be replaced, the toilet didn't work, it is in a horrible neighborhood(skid row), and the noise was super loud until 2 or 3 am. My boyfriend and i came here for our 1 year anniversary and we are young enough not to make a noise complaint but the rude woman who checked us in well she was not what i expected for a W hotel employee. Also, they treated us poorly because we booked online, what was that about? I would never stay here again, i would rather stay in a nice moderately priced hotel. This hotel is pretentious and so are the people that work there. Horrible stay!

The hotel is very nice, very trendy. It is in a good location, accessible to the harbor and shopping all within walking distance. The bar is very expensive in the lobby and I wasn't too fond of the Sand Bar. If you go the Sand Bar, wear sandals that you can take off because it will ruin nice shoes and the sand gets into everything. It is very loud in the hotel lobby due to the music. The person checking us in had to turn it down so she could hear us and we could hear her. We were able to get a good deal on this hotel on the website otherwise we wouldn't have paid the exorbitant price regularly listed.

Very nice hotel and the employee's were very polite and eager help. The room was way to warm. Could not get the A/C to cool the room so we were awake on and off all night long because it would get so warm. All the maintenance guy did was turn on the blower so it ran the entire time. Hallway was a good 10 degrees cooler than than the room. In 3 days they did not solve the problem. Not worth the $* or more they usually get.
