The hotel, overall, was fine. Not up to the usual Hilton standard, but it was okay. The close proximity to major roads made it seem more like just another urban hotel than a resort, but it was easy to get to Old Town San Juan from here. The biggest downside to this hotel was that the staff was really rude and unhelpful.

i have stayed at the caribe hilton several times in the past twenty years, most recently in february 2010 for a long weekend alone. it has always been great. the three onsite restaurants are good if you don't feel like venturing out, also. the lobby is very pretty and comfortable, the rooms were clean and well maintained, and the gym on property was great. the few stores on property are more than enough for what you may need on a small vacation, unless you're looking for the glamorous shops found in more resort-style properties. some complain about the narrow beach, but you can always find a good spot without having to be there at the crack of dawn.

  • I was satisfied for the package price.

The rooms were average and appeared to be clean. There was a sewer or musty smell in the hallways. The bright spot of the room was the bed which was very comfortable. The beach area was small. The pool area was very nice with a great swim-up bar but it seemed to close very early in the evening. The hotel would greatly benefit from a nightclub with live music. After dark there isn't much to do here. The hotel is not within walking distance of anything. Be prepared to call a taxi or learn the local bus route. The food and drinks at the hotel were extreamly overpriced and not that good. There is a mom and pop diner a couple of blocks away with decent food and prices. If you are wanting drinks, the best bet is to take the bus into Old San Juan and stock up at the local drugstore. All in all, I'm not displeased with this trip but I wouldn't repeat it or recommend it.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our time here. It's right on the ocean and really pretty, the private beach is very nice, and there are a lot of places to relax and enjoy the sun. There is a big pool with a pool bar, several restaurants, a tour company on site, and really helpful staff. The room is very nice and the bed is REALLY comfortable. The main problem is that there is no inexpensive food around and the breakfast is really expensive. Additionally, you need to take cabs to get anywhere, which really adds up. Definitely would recommend it, but don't go in November- it rained the whole time!

We stayed at the Caribe for a couple of days prior to sailing out of San Juan on an Royal Caribbean cruise. We had trouble flying out of Miami due to weather, and got put into St. Thomas for the night (at AA's expense), but that caused us to miss one of my prepaid, discounted nights at the Caribe. Despite a no-refunds policy, they did grant a refund of the night... how do you spell "happy camper?" The hotel is beautiful and everyone is friendly. Even at a great discount (I paid $*/night) we got a beautiful oceanview suite - and this was during March 2010 - a pretty busy time of year. The hotel was well kept, has beautiful grounds, and a great pool and beach. I relly enjoyed the ocean boardwalk that give you an overlook of a small reef that has a lot of fish activity that you can readily see, and feed. I also enjoyed the hammocks nestled under the palm trees for a romantic spot to chill and enjoy a cocktail. Would highly recommend this place as a great location in SJ to start, end, or enjoy your vacation.
