If you are looking for a nice place to stay in Avila then the Inn at Avila is not the place to go!! The place is run down and not well taken care of at all. Our room smelled, the maid didn't clean our room after our first day there and the room was dank and dark, probably because 5 lightbulbs were out on the ceiling fan lights. Don't waste your money, we will never stay there again!!!!

It is an old hotel, our room was on the 3rd floor so we had three flights of stairs to haul our suitcases up. We had a "Queen bed suite". The room smelled musty on entering. There was a hide-a-bed in a sitting alcove and also a love seat in front of the bed, 3 feet from the big screen TV so that must be what qualifies for a "suite". The balcony had a wicker love seat, chaise lounge, chair and table. It was a lovely place to sit and watch the beach activity and the waves. The bathroom is only big enough for one person at a time, and the shower/tub combo needs new shower doors that slide easily and new fixtures to replace the rusty ones in the tub. The pillowcases were wrinkled as if they had been in a laundry basket before being put on the pillows. It didn't inspire confidence as to their cleanliness. The view was spectacular and there is a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker in the room. They also supply you with a package of popcorn (more downstairs if you need it) and they have a library full of DVD's and Videos you can take to your room. There is a community room also downstairs with a TV if you want to get out of your room, and wine glasses and complimentary water. The price of this room is for the view.

Not quite sure what type of room the other reviewers stayed in, BUT, ours was a disaster! Sure, the location of the Inn is great (it IS next to the Pacific), BUT, the room that is offered through the online deal is NOT 3 star. The room does not include an ocean view, the ""courtyard view"" is really just the parking lot (with several trashcans highly visible!), the rooms are decorated in what can only be described as ""cheesy"" and the floors squeak and shake, almost to the point of fear that the TV set is going to fall off the desk. The bath tub was badly in need of refinishing and the shower spray was a trickle. Also, if you have a car of any size, BEWARE! The parking spaces ARE the first floor of the Inn and are made for a Mini-Cooper or Smartcar. Getting in and out was a nightmare. Also, the Inn is used for long term guests and almost has an apartment complex feel to it. Luckily, we were only staying one night and ended up at a greatly improved Inn in Santa Barbara. Our suggestion to travelers...pay a little more for another Inn and skip this place.

All of the advantages of a Mediterranean vacation without the long flight or expense. It is quaint, it is funky, it is fun. Rooms have microwaves and refrigerators. The roof top has gas grills and living room set ups, including TVs. Plan on having most meals there. A stop at Trader Joe's in SLO took care of us for the entire stay. Admittedly, the weather was spectacular for our stay, and winter rates made it a great value. Can't beat watching the Super Bowl on the roof and in the room with the backdrop of San Luis Bay, with warm gentle breezes and the sound of breaking waves. I cannot give this a more favorable review. The town and beach were delightful and the Inn is just fun. We stayed on the third floor, there is no elevator; but worth the effort. Now if I could only get that soundtrack to stop streaming through my brain. My, My Mama Mia.

The Inn at Avila Beach has been around for a while, and while in some ways it shows, it has a funky charm absent in newer facilities. Our oceanside room was spacious and well appointed. Free indoor parking was nice, and there's a roof-top deck with separate areas for semi-private gatherings, TV or even BBQing. Several good eateries are within walking distance, and the views are spectacular.
