This became my home away from home for a week in Sep, then again in Dec. The staff (from room service to management) was extremely friendly and helpful. Stayed in a suite both times, and I thought it was warm and inviting. Location is perfect: just 1 block from Bourbon Street. I'd never want to be housed directly on Bourbon due to the late night party-goers. Being a block away was quiet, yet close enough to everything.

The hotel is a traditional french quarter style property. Rooms are small. However, most people going to New Orleans don't spend too much time in their hotel rooms. Front desk staff is very helpful with the property location being close enough to the French Quarter, without being right in the noise and commotion of the French Quarter. I would definitely suggest the property as a spot to stay for business or pleasure.

We stayed at the Hotel Monteleone on the advice of friends and we loved every minute of it. The hotel was beautiful and priced affordably for being located in the French Quarter. It was within walking distance of just about everything including Cafe du Mond which I highly suggest to anyone visting New Orleans. The beds were comfortable and our room was very quaint. While the bathroom was a tad on the small side for a family of 3, we made good use of it and had no problems using it to get ready all at the same time. The pool is a must visit since it is on the roof of the hotel. It isn't deep, but it definitely has character. They give you heated towels too when you get out! A big plus when a thunderstorm is rolling in! We took a carriage ride around the Quarter and had a wonderfully knowledgeable and friendly driver named David Duquet. He is third generation born and raised in New Orleans so he knows his stuff. If you plan on taking a carriage ride while there, you should defintely seek him out to be your driver. If travelling with young children, just be sure to stay away from Bourbon St. after 6 PM. We took a short stroll down the street at around 6 PM and found it a little to over the top for our 8 year old. Very interesting place to be though if you have the concierge find you a babysitter early enough.

The history and charm of the Hotel Monteleone is undeniable. The lobby is gorgeous, historical, and exactly what one would expect. I would stay there again, but I would probably explore other options as well. All but one of the gentlemen serving as valet parking attendants were rude, and one adjusted our radio station (including turning it up loudly). A parking garage elevator and an elevator in the hotel were down while were there, causing long delays with getting to the lobby and getting our car. We were scheduled to have a "deluxe" room, which is the "largest" of the guest rooms, most offering views of the the Mississippi River or French Quarter (according to their webpage). If that was the largest of the guest rooms, I would hate to see the two smaller rooms. It was miniscule. The view was of what appeared to be the HVAC system. On the positive side, it was very clean. The linens were nice. The soaps were nice. The water pressure was good. No flat panel tv in this day and age? In an era when La Quinta and Hyatt have flat panel tvs on the wall, that is a little surprising for the Monteleone to not have that amenity. We had breakfast in Le Cafe, but $20 was a little steep for the buffet. The other menu choices were nearly as expensive. The buffet did have a nice selection of fresh fruit. The staff was mostly very professional. Personally, my suggestion would be to visit the lobby, the gift shop, the Carousel bar, but stay elsewhere. It was not a disaster, but for that many stars and that sort of price, I expect a little more.
