I read tons of bad reviews on this hotel and I went in expecting the worst. The staff that checked me in were very nice. They took my bags and held them while i went to the beach I checked out at 530 in the morning and it took them about 3 seconds to have me checked out!! all my charges were correct. I ate at the resturant out back and the staff was very helpful and polite although i got egg whites and its was only one egg white! for 9.50! The fruit plate was great. The pool area was clean and the gate to the hotel was always locked! had my own code, WIth that being said.. my room was ok, I had a ""king size"" bed which was two twin beds pushed together with TWIN sheets.. anyone could have fallen throught the middle! The bathroom needs updating (clear shower liner no curtain old tile toilet right next to door!) but the room was clean. The real draw back to this hotel is the paper thin walls... and i mean PAPER THIN!! as could the rest of the floor because when i walked out into the hallway to see what was up others were doing the same ???? I could hear my neighbors above me, below me, and next to me!! SO like i said its ok if your single and under 30.. i slept with the tv on so i didnt hear the noise after the first couple of hours.. but i would never bring my kids here or have a romantic vacation.. this just isnt the place.. although i dont think that south beach is the place for kids anyway. Bottom line it was just ok

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in January 2009. The location is awesome, the staff is super friendly, accomodating and efficient, but overall, the experience left a lot to be desired. Firstly, please be aware that there are 2 buildings for the Richmond, one on the beach side of A1A and one across the street from it. If you are not fortunate enough to be booked in the beach side, you must walk across the street to use any of the facilities and to access the beach, of course. The staff was kind enough to point this out to us and changed our room to one in the beachfront building. The rooms are very small and the walls and the doors are so thin, you can hear everyone's conversations as you walk down the hall and if you are unfortunate enough to have an adjoining room, you hear your neighbor's TV at normal volume, their phone conversations, and their every move in the room!! This is not an exaggeration! The access to the beach is great, but it is one of the only ones that is secluded so it smells heavily of urine because people go in there to relieve themselves since there are no restroom facilities on the beach. Don't take off your flip flops until AFTER you walk through there!!! FYI, $34.00 to taxi from airport.

Bottom Line: 4of5stars. Great value for singles/couples wanting a short vacation on Miami Beach. Not for families or long-stays. SpringBreakers need not apply. Synopsis: A quirky art-deco throwback that's captured/reveled in its early 20th century heritage. Think of the Richmond as a 1930s cruise liner pulled up at port, and you, in your little economy stateroom, are in steerage. Ship?s lanterns light your way down the long corridor until you're greeted by your clean, friendly cabin which, although small and probably has no view, displays a 1920s clock, a watercolor of the old hotel in its heyday, scrupulously scrubbed blue and turquoise tile walls in the bath, and fresh bathrobes for use throughout our stay. You don?t spend much time in your room, but out and about, sampling the eclectic, tolerant atmosphere of Miami?s famous South Beach. It?s a great headquarters from which to navigate your way to the beach/pool/boardwalk/restaurants/shops, and myriad other Miami Beach haunts. Security?4of5stars. Cleanliness?5of5stars. Quietude?3of5stars(Little sound from street/boardwalk/nightlife-very quiet as long as guests were respectful-some transmission from corridors). RoomAmenities?2of5stars. No micro/fridge/inroomcoffee/vcr/dvd/freeinternet. Minimal storage. Hotel Amenities ? 3of5 stars. Wonderful cont.-breakfast?add it to your package?fruit/toast/juice/excellent coffee. Can add eggs/potatoes/meats. No wholewheat toast. No lunch/dinner-but semi-full service bar. Very courteous/helpful staff. Can take pool towels to beach. Beach rentals chairs ($10)/umbrellas($13). Very few poolside chairs; limited sunlight through formidable canopy of old palms.OtherInformation: Cab/airport: $32+tip. Walgreens nearby breakfast/lunch/wine/beer/sundries. Liquor/deli across street. Restaurants:?mile+ (try the Grillfish/$100for2includeswine).In Summary. We heartily (Me Hearties!) recommend The Richmond for singles/couples seeking long-weekend break for surf/sun on beautiful Miami Beach. When you sit in the hot tub and look back at the rear of the hotel, its patio overhang slopes to give the hotel the impression of the stern of a cruise ship gently rolling in the waves. Bon Voyage!
