Since Kalakaua can be like Main Street at Disney during a parade, this location was perfect! Located at the end near the Zoo. Right across from the beach and walking distance from everything. Freeway access to H1 was convenient. The staff was friendly and breakfast on the beach could not be beat! Continental breakfast, Japanese style with rice and takuan, miso, waffles, omlettes to order, various yogurts and all the fun tropical juices. The live music and hula in the morning is what we miss the most. There was also live music everynight at the Tiki lounge (kid friendly up to a certain hour). The Pool was small, but beach access outweighs any reason to be at the pool. Definately would stay here again.

I was very excited to stay at a hotel so close to the beach and when I made my reservation we specifically looked for free breakfast, free wifi, an available microwave, and king bed. A few weeks after setting my reservation there was an update that any reservation made AFTER 3-1-12 would be subject to a charge for the WiFi and it was updated to a “nominal” fee for the hot portions of breakfast. The hotel did not honor the fact that we made our reservation in January and we would have been be charged for WiFi $10 per day and charged for the hot portions of the breakfast! When we arrived our room had no trash bags, no toilet paper, no “BOB” bag, or ice bucket liner we had to request those from our housekeeper the next day. When they clean the rooms you have to leave a note in order to get them to take your trash out??? When we didn’t it was just left there in the trash can and the towels would get restocked but the dirty ones were left to pile up in a corner. Also we got 2 double beds not instead of the King, there is no microwave available to customers, there is no coffee in the rooms you have to go down to the 3rd floor for coffee – and the elevator system is a nightmare when it’s busy you will wait 20-25 minutes for your elevator. Our air conditioner didn’t work, instead of moving us to a room where it worked, and where we would have the arrangements we paid for, they bypassed the shutoff system to keep it on all the time and every 24-48 hours we had to call again to get them to reset it for it to come back on. The hair dryer did not work; neither did the 1940’s hair dryer in the closest. The pool hours are incredibly conservative not opening until 0930 and closing before the sunsets. Our refrigerator went out and when they got it working again it just leaked everywhere which in their policy I guess isn’t broken. Also they have no shuttle available if you want one they will charge for $10 per person each way and you MUST set it up with more than 24 hrs notice. It is $27 per day for “valet” parking which is literally 10 spots they call a parking lot that is the driveway where most hotels allow shuttles in. Luckily we found several garages and public parking near buy for 1/3 of the cost. To top the cake they charge for local calls $1.00 per minute!!! No notice no signs anywhere to let you know that. I would absolutely never recommend this hotel to anyone, pay half the price and stay a lower rated hotel and you will have a better experience or pay $5-10 more per night and get into one of the other hotels nearby with a higher rating.

Most comfortable bed ever!! View was spectacular. Diamond Head was so close that I felt I could almost reach it from my balcony. My daughters and I enjoyed the complimentary breakfast bar each morning (the purple donuts are YUMMY). If we were any closer to the beach, we would have slept on the sand. Easy access to buses, trollies, and other transportation. Short walking distance to tons of shopping and attractions. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would return there again myself.

I think we caught the Aston on a tough weekend. The good part was: we really enjoyed the attached Tiki Bar & Grill, the central location, and the friendly bell staff. The not so good: o The rooms are very small with few amenities (no microwave, no coffee maker). So if you have a hoodlum like us, it's just too small for the little guy to wander and be himself. o Our room had a defective door latch, faucet that was difficult to turn off, and a very fuzzy LCD TV. o Breakfast is like a feed line. You have to race other guests in a mad frenzy to get the items you like. o The elevators are key accessed, where you select your floor number before an elevator is assigned/dispatched to you. In most cases, this resulted in impressive speedy access. However, the elevators went wacko during our stay, and we had to climb 25 floors to get to our room (along with all the other guests). o The price and advertising are indicative of a higher class of service than provided.

Not a 4 star by any means! Partial ocean view was a joke. We were facing another hotel on the 8th floor. Elevators were not working half the time and when they were, they were very slow. The bathroom was very small and dirty, tile grout was dirty and mildew on the walls. I would NEVER stay there again. It is nothing like the website or pictures. I don't usually write reviews but hope I could spare someone the disapointment on their vacation.
