The room was dimly lit and it was not in a safe neighborhood at night. There is graffiti on the buildings around it and bums sleeping under stairs. It was nicely located next to a trolley stop, though. The front desk staff was not friendly and was not accommodating at all. All of our requests were met with "we can't do that" or "that's not our problem." The ironing board was broken. The bed was very high and difficult for me, a person of shorter statute to get into. There was no bath matt in the bathroom and the shower did get a lot of water on the floor = slippery. As someone else said, the sofa bed was very uncomfortable and when asked for extra padding, or extra mattress, or even extra blankets and pillows, we were told no. I have never been told no to extra bedding in a motel before! The water in the lobby is cold and delicious and the $* breakfast is alright. But the service was not good. I would not stay here again.

The first floor room was very noisy, dark and dingy. Not what I had expected based on the 4 1/2 "smiles" rating. Carpets could use an update and the first floor hallway needs to be refurbished. The cleaning staff had done a good job but that didn't erase the dinginess of the room. With one exception the staff was great. Breakfast was good, the attendant was super. It is certainly a value. Don't plan to have a person sleep on the sofa sleeper .... I did and it was a challenge. We called the front desk and asked if there was anything available to make it more comfortable: foam, air mattress, a second mattress to augment the thin one. I was informed there was nothing they could do for me. I called the hotel before making the reservation and was told it was a safe walk to Riverwalk. Daytime yes, but I don't recommend it at night. Learn to use the trolleys or call a cab if you are coming back after dark. However, if you are attending an event at the Alamo Dome it is very close and a safe walk even at night.

Great location and extraordinarily friendly staff made us feel like we were staying at a small family owned place. The breakfast was excellent for the price. The Riverwalk is a very short walk from the front door and we never felt like things got sketchy walking back after dark. Everything was extremely clean and well done from the bathrooms to the lobby area downstairs. We only had two complaints. One, the trains at night were really bothersome on the first night (a Wednesday) and we didn't sleep well because of it. We didn't really hear any other traffic noise, which was great considering the hotel's proximity to the freeway. Two, the air conditioner in the room would constantly move through different creaking and groaning cycles all night long never giving a nice consistent noise to sleep by. In fact, the sound would change dramatically enough to wake us up. Even with those two things, this is still our go to place in San Antonio now. The friendly staff and clean surroundings are second to none at this price point. Add in the free parking and you have a real bargain here.

We are retired individuals and only spend our money traveling on special events. This event was our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The Hotel Staff was warm, friendly, and very helpful. They have a small parking lot, but it was not a problem for us since we parked and used trolleys for everything we did. The hotel provided the passes for the trolleys at a minimal charge per person per day. There was a hot breakfast provided at another minimal charge. I mean a real hot breakfast with a selection. We even had breakfast burritos one day. The staff was so friendly that the lady that provided the breakfast had to hug us both goodbye the day we left. We could probably rant a rave some more about this hotel, but I can guarantee that if we ever go back, guess where we are staying. If you have the time and the money, take the all day bus trip first. If you do, you can find or see most of the attractions in the area. Then anything you miss you can see by taking the trolleys. The staff will be more than glad to explain the trolleys for you. They even made dinner reservations for us. Hope you enjoy San Antonio and the Best Western Sunset Suites as we did.
