The staffs attempts to be friendly did not come off as genuine. The food is pricey and the hot food/coffee is too cold and the cold food isn't cold enough. The Hotel should warn customers not to use the bicycle rick-shaws because those guys can't be trusted and some are even criminal and will try to take you down a back-street and rob you. No kidding. The hotel location is convenient and close to Tianamen Sq and the Forbidden City.

For the most part, I really liked staying at this hotel. The rooms are decent, they provide 2 bottles of water per day (as well as 1.5 liter bottles in the room for 15 rmb), and the restaurants are USUALLY pretty good. Issues I had: beds were hard, but that is expected in China Laundry service is very overpriced. half of my clothes, less than a full load in a standard washer, cost around 350 rmb just to wash. No special services requested. For an international hotel, not enough of the staff can speak English. I don't expect them to be fluent, but knowing a few basic word would be nice. Maybe 1/3rd of the staff understood anything I said. There was a business group there having a conference, and the hotel allowed them to completely reserve 2 of the restaurants for multiple days at lunch time. One was the restaurant we usually stopped by for a quick lunch, and was suppose to be available to us 24/7. Also, 2 of the other restaurants were not even open at that time...do that left Cantonese (good, but don't want it multiple days in a row) and the top floor restaurant, which I do not care for. There are multiple, very large rooms specifically for meetings and conferences in the hotel...I do not know why they did not use those.

This hotel provided excellent value for our money. We were not disappointed in any way about our selection. The best thing was that we were within walking distance of a number of places we wanted to visit, like Forbidden City, and The Temple of Heaven. There was one large shopping area (numerous shops with a wonderful bakery to have coffee and a Danish) within a block, and two other large shopping malls within walking distance. It was easy to arrange tours at the hotel. The beds were hard (though that is common in China), but very comfortable. We would definitely go back there.
