We were planning a little Christmas shopping. The desk staff were smiling and helpful when we checked in. I appreciated the the fast service. The maid staff was friendly and spoke when we arrived at our room. Our room was small and old but it worked for what we needed. Our only problem was lack of heat through the night. When we called the front desk, they offered to send maintenance up immediately, but we chose not to due to lack of time.
The front desk staff offered a discount of $30. off our bill which I found quite a nice surprise. Our refund will have to go through online travel and take a bit longer,
I would stay here again because of location. It was reasonable rates and a block from Mag Mile.
If I were in town for meetings I might choose something a bit more upscale.

Was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, only to be pleasantly surprised. I mean it is a Red Roof, but for a Red Roof I found it very nice. The lobby was all re-done and nice. Free coffee, hot chocolate, and a bunch of other kinds of coffee drinks were available all day at no charge. We arrived in Chicago and went right to the hotel. We parked ourselves, because we did not want to mess with the valet, and were able to park less than a 1/2 block away. We were able to check in early and proceeded to the elevator. From some other reviews I thought this is where it might get scary. However the elevator was all re-done and very cool, it must now be air conditioned. We stayed on the 3 rd floor and had a decent size room that was brand new. New TV, fridge, microwave, carpet, bedding, bathiroom, you name it. It was a little tiny but a lot are in downtown. It was not too small in my opinion. The only issue we had was the room was warm. We called to have them adjust/fix the a/c and they came up within 10 minutes. He fixed it within 5 minutes and was on his way. However, it did get quite warm again later. For as long as we were in the room it was not that big of deal
All in all it was great, I will be staying here again for sure. The location is really unbeatable. It is a block off of Michigan, and right in the heart of downtown.
This is a great value.

My husband and I stayed at the Red Roof Inn of Chicago - Downtown the weekend of the marathon. This hotel is AWFUL!!!! We pulled up to the valet to have our car parked and we could barely understand what he was telling us. We had to unload our own luggage, which wasn't too bad, but still, isn't that what valets are for? The check-in process was quick, but we couldn't get to our room until 3 p.m., which is the way it goes at most hotels, but we wanted to check our bags. They had a closet in the lobby that you put your bags in, which the door had a sign that stated leave bags at your own risk! Not a great feeling of security there! We get to the elevator, NO air-conditioning, and finally get to our room. We open the door to the room and a piece of the door falls onto the floor. The room is tiny, but it is downtown Chicago, so I kinda figured it would be! We had to call for towels everyday and on the last day, my husband had to walk down to get them, because the person @ the front desk told him that he was the only one there! Customer service is horrible and so is the condition of this hotel. It SERIOUSLY needs a renovation! We will NEVER stay there again!

My sister-in-law and I went to Chicago for the weekend and I booked this hotel based off of reviews, location, and price. It is a block from Michigan Avenue, within walking distance of pretty much everything, if you don't mind walking. The room wasn't quite ready when we checked in, so we had to wait a few minutes. When we walked into the room, however, it smelled very clean. There was a wet spot on the floor (we weren't sure what it was) and not enough towels for two people.
The rooms themselves are exceptionally small, with just enough room for the beds with perhaps two feet of space on either side and in between them. The mattresses were hard and there were only two pillows per bed. In the bathroom, the tile had been repainted but the paint was starting to peel and the tub was very slippery.
There was no coffeemaker in the room, and no dining facility on site (not even breakfast), but there were several nice restaurants in the area.
It was all very small and basic. However, for the amount of time we actually spent in the room, it wasn't bad. Next time I visit the city, though, I think I'll splurge for a nicer hotel.
