The hotel was renovated in 2006 and could use some updating - nicely appointed rooms, but with some shabbiness (frayed corners on the chair, worn toilet seat), but generally comfortable. The rooms are small, but the location is great and the staff was excellent. The hotel lobby is very attractive.

The rooms are super small but really clean. The hotel was 5-10 min walk to the gas lamp and 10 minutes to the pier. I would definitely stay here again. The only down side was the beds. They were a twin size I think. Oh well it was still worth the value.

I picked the Sophia because it was located a few blocks from a meeting I had in San Diego. Boy, did I ever luck out. I travel to San Diego several times a year and The Sophia is definitely my new first choice. Upon check-in the desk clerk gave me an upgrade to a suite at a (very) discounted rate because I needed an early check-in time and my room wasn't available. The suite was very nice and gave me a nice semi-private work space so my fiancée could relax without disturbing me while I prepared for my meeting. The staff gave my fiancée several ideas of places to visit while I worked. They definitely went the extra mile to make us fell comfortable. We had dinner Currant Restaurant that night and couldn't have had a better evening. Kudos to the staff and management.

We stayed here last year for our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a better stay or better service! their restaurant had GREAT food! the breakfast was YUMMY! Our 1 year wedding anniversary is coming up in the next few weeks and we are going to stay again. Thanks Sofia for being AWESOME!
