I really adored the room style. If your into anime or Japanese culture I would say pick this hotel. I also LOVE their shower. I honestly would love to build a bath in my house like theirs. you have a shower and a bath next to each other side by side and a shower head in the bath as well if you liked. You and your company may use it at the same time and you will not run out of hot water. The only thing I really really really hated is the parking situation. It seems to me the price should include it since they own the freaking parking or the mall complex. Now if you are planning to drive around that area and leave and come back every now and then to the hotel then you are going to be in a bad shape. Otherwise I think the price was around 20 dollars for the whole day or something around that. It is not bad but I feel I am getting my arm twisted, but thats San Francisco for you. Other than that I enjoyed it and they have a nice Indian restaurant close by and also a Mediterranean restaurant a few blocks away from it. I tried them both and I really enjoyed them. For the most part the area was very nice and it seemed to be in good condition. However there were a couple of homeless guys a block or two away from the hotel on a nightly basis. They were the same individuals. I found that to be annoying really other than that I liked the place. Now the hotel also have a restaurant but I really did not try it but no free breakfast or anything. On the other hand they had a free wifi.

Don't be fooled by the Zen lobby.

I used to be regular at the Hotel Kabuki, staying every two months for almost a year. The fair prices for a location bordering Pacific Heights, view rooms and passes to Kabuki Spa & Springs were perfect for my consulting trips to San Francisco. When my boyfriend and I decided on a last minute trip to the city I of course thought of the Kabuki. My favorite corner king rooms were unavailable so we upgraded to an Executive Suite, lured by the private sauna and deep soaking tubs. The first morning I woke up to the peace of the Japanese Garden which was shattered, no pun intended, when I cut my foot on one of several pieces of broken glass in the sauna. The manageress on duty was rude, and barely apologetic. She shrugged that she couldn't give us another room as the hotel was full, and offered to comp a couple of mini-bar items. When I commented that this was not the way I expected to be treated as a hotel regular she told me that I wasn't a hotel regular, saying that my 5 visits the previous year weren't showing up on the hotel register. Frankly I was disappointed by the lack of courtesy displayed by a hotel higher-up purportedly in the 'hospitality' industry. What sort of record-keeping system do Joie de Vivre hotels use? What sort of people are they hiring to keep their regulars coming back? I for one am not.

The day I checked in the hotel restaurant was closed; apparently they close on Tuesdays. No room service, no restaurant and the rooms felt in great need of repair. The sliding door window to the outside was so dirty it looked as if it had not been washed in weeks. The balcony was filthy with cigarette butts and cans as well. The carpet was one of those that you felt like you needed shoes to walk on it. The walls, bathroom and beds were no better; honestly, I would not stay at this hotel again.

From the pictures, the price, and some of the reviews, I expected the hotel to be a lot newer and nicer than it actually was. We even upgraded to a city view room on one of the higher floors. The room looked like it hadnt been updated in more than a few years. The hotel was busy and the attendants at the front desk were always very busy. The doormen were quite helpful. The hotel was in a quiet part of SF, Japantown, with no other hotels around, not as it turns out, a very happening part of the city, unless you've come for the sushi restaurants, which were in good supply. It was my first visit to San Francisco so I didnt know exactly what to expect. I think on my next trip, I'll try to find something closer to the Mission District or perhaps closer to downtown and the convenience of the BART stations.

this is an excellent hotel in the Joie de Vivre Hotel chain. Located in central San Francisco within walking distance to a lot of stores and restaurants in Japantown, you can get a great sampling of Japan without going to Japan. Best ramen restaurant in this area- Suzu restaurant. Best ramen restaurant in SF- Izakaya Sozai- about 20-25 min drive. Lots of sushi restaurants in SF- no specific recommendation. Back to the rooms- clean, nice. Very nice Japanese style bathroom more like the bathrooms in Japanese homes in Japan as opposed to the bathrooms in Japanese hotels in Japan. This means the bathrooms are spacious. I would definitely use this hotel again. There is buffet breakfast for $18 per person if you are interested.
