First let me say the Monte Carlo has spectacular placement along the strip. There is easy access to most of the hotspots along the strip. The hotel itself is rather underwhelming, the rooms are small, the facilities are average at best, and most of the restaurants and services are overpriced. I've travelled the world and I know a 3-star hotel when i see one, and that is defintely where this facility lies. It was clean, and extremly average, but 4-star should "wow" you at least a little. Even the view from my 31st floor room was underwhelming. It was ok, and if you get a good deal go for it, but in my opinion, if you want to stay somewhere that gives you a real thrill, go for the Venetian, Paris, New York New York, or even Caesars. The Monte Carlo is ok, but nothing special.

The hotel was nice, and close to the strip. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. The valet and bell staff were very accomodating. Beds were comfy and the room was very clean. The buffet was great and it had lots of amenities in the hotel for convenience. I didn't like the $20 charge per day for 2 bottles of water and two coffee pods, one of which was decaf. They also use a horrible perfume smell throughout the hotel that hit you in the face as soon as you walk in. Otherwise a really great stay.

The Monte Carlo has not kept up with the competition. It's unfortunately located next to the Mandarin, Aria and Cosmopolitan, all of which make the Monte Carlo look like a dump in comparison. Rooms are a bit run-down. No HD TV and no Wi-Fi make it all the more stark. The staff is good, and the Brand steakhouse is a great steakhouse (better than The Palm, which isn't actually saying much), with an excellent wait staff. Casino is on the small side for table games, but if you like penny slots, they have tons of those.

If you are looking for a comfortable, clean, friendly hotel, this Monte Carlo is wonderful. The only down side is that there is not a lot to do outside of the casino. Shopping is weak and restaurants are lacking. Steak house is outrageously expensive, buffet is decent.
