First off, I have to say that I love to stay in restored historic hotels. I love history and will not be overly judgemental when it comes to room size, closet space, etc. However, I will not compromise on room cleanliness or false advertisement. This hotel was run like the BBC show "Fawlty Towers." The bellhops/valet/busboys had no idea what was going on. The hotel has 172 rooms, yet only has 20 parking spots for valet. The pictures on the hotels website look nothing like the actual hotel rooms. The hotel was renovated sometime in what appears to be the late 70's and has not be touched since. Our room was nice and large and the beds were quite comfortable even though they were, at most, full sized. The room was supposed to be a non-smoking room, yet smelled like an ashtray. I would have changed hotels, however, there was a rally the weekend we went and there was nary a room to be had. I would not recommend this hotel.

We spent 7 nights at the Churchill and found it an excellant choice. The Staff was pleasant and helpful both with information about the hotel and getting around the Washington. Our room was excellant with a bedroom sitting room and an alcove. The room was clean the linens fresh and kept stocked with the usual amenities #40soap hair care products coffee etc.#41 We ate lunch at the hotel only one day and it was good. Since we were out sightseeing this was the only meal we had at the hotel. We did not have any problem with the hot water as noted in one review. The only disappointment we had was getting a bottle of water from the bar one evening...at a cost of *. We did not make that mistake again. There is a Rite Aide about 1 block south that sells the same size water for * cents. Location is great in a good neighborhood with people walking everywhere feeling very secure. We used the Metro Bus to get around Washington as we wanted to see the area not be moles. We purchased a weekly seniors pass for * that allowed us to hop on and off any bus. The bus stop is less than a block south of the hotel and the 42 bus takes you downtown close to the White House and the Museums. We found the bus drivers very helpful in telling us where to get off or transfer to other buses for our destination. We will definitely stay at the Churchill on our next trip to Washington....

We enjoyed our two-night stay at the Churchill, north of Dupont Circle, in Washington DC. Our room was spacious, with a big, comfortable bed, a separate alcove with a desk, and a bathroom with a counter long enough to hold many, many toiletries. Plenty of drawers. Good lighting. Quiet. More than enough pillows. The only drawback was the lack of hot water most of the time.

I stayed at the Churchill in Washington, DC, a lovely place in a great location near DuPont Circle, one of the Historic Hotels in America. The service was excellent, the room was well appointed. They even offered a wake-up service of TWO calls in the morning! Then they went and ruined the whole experience by charging an additional $* a day for internet access!! I don't understand why an otherwise top-notch place would lower themselves to this kind of nickle and dime baloney, but it certainly demeans them in my eyes. I simply cannot rate a hotel above 3 stars when they charge for this service. It is as distasteful as requiring payment for concierge services, and leaves as bad a taste in the mouth. When I made this comment to the manager, he told me he agrees. Then STOP it!!
