My husband and I recently stayed there for two weeks while he recovered from back surgery. The beds were very comfortable --even for someone who had just had surgery! Staff was great, rooms clean and quiet. The shuttle was a big help to get to follow-up doctor appointments. We asked for a microwave/fridge combo for the room and handi-cap shower chair, and all were provided. I was able to walk to the University, pharmacy, and grocery stores easily. Only problem was that when the weather was warm the rooms got quite stuffy, but when we called the front desk about this, they brought up a maintenance person to unscrew the lock on the windows and bring in a fan. They allowed our visitors to park in their lot for free. We had a pleasant experience.

I really like the decor of this hotel! The bedrooms are nicely appointed, and sized. Staff is polite, helpful, and quiet! The location is great most of the time, but be well prepared to drive for breakfast on a Sunday morning, the Ave in the U-District is dead that day of the week!! The hotel offers breakfast, and while it's good, the menu seems limited.
A good value with charming quirks.10/03/2011

While staying in Seattle on a recent business trip, I discovered the Hotel Deca. Surprisingly, it seemed to present the best value of any hotel in the area, with the only less expensive options being Travelodge and the like. I also enjoy old architecture, so I booked it with anticipation. I found my room to be as presented on the website. It was clean, and being built in the 1930's, cozy. Anyone complaining about the size or layout of the rooms here is simply being naive and unrealistic. I find it to be part of the hotel's charm. The recent sympathetic renovation shows. While perhaps not top-dollar, is neither out and out cheap. Yes, the walls are thin, and yes, you can easily hear their neighbors. Again, it's an old building, and there is really no fixing that realistically. However, the hotel is aware of this, and very thoughtfully offers a complimentary set of earplugs on the nightstand. ;-) Perhaps my only real criticism would be the weak wi-fi signal. Connection quality was poor and could use some real upgrading. Although, it is FREE after all. Overall I enjoyed my brief stay there, and would definitely book it again, as well as recommend it to others. One just needs to remember that it is an OLD building from another era, packed with history and charm, and stay there BECAUSE of that. :-)
