The Ala Moana Hotel was very clean and one of the best prices for a 4 star hotel I found in my research. The staff was helpful and friendly. This was our first trip to Hawaii and if given the chance we would definately stay at the Ala Moana again.

had a great experience... clean rooms, friendly staff. love the location!! away from the waikiki crowd. can walk across the ramp (on 2nd floor) to ala moana shopping center if want to shop or eat. there are also many local eateries nearby. it's also just a couple of blocks away from wal-mart and don quijote if need to get some basic essentials. the beach/lagoon is just across the ala moana blvd. near 92 and H1 highways. we even got to see fireworks from waikiki side in our own room! parking is $$ per day.. not so bad compared to the $$ for 2.5 hours parking we spent while visiting the main waikiki area. the only down side is that the fire dept is a block away.. so can hear sirens.

08/25/2008The hotel was clean and comfortable, but the full service part of the hotel was not present. good thing the mall was next door.

I have two sons, both of which are 6'2". The room had two double beds with more than enough sleeping room for them and my wife and I. The walking around space in the room is limited, but not restrictive. There was a small lanai balcony and while the room was categorized as a partial ocean view, I could see about 40% of the Ocean and the rest was the beach front of Honolulu which was nice. The Ala Moana Center, a large mall with great stores and places to eat like Bubba Gump Shrimp, California Pizza Kitchen, etc... was connected via a walkway from the hotel on the 2nd floor. This allowed us to go do some shopping and eating for dinner without having to go out and fight traffic. This brought the cost of the hotel room down to $199 per night. Considering it is a one block from the beach (its own) and 6-8 blocks from the center of Waikiki (hilton), it is in a great location. If you are military, retired, or otherwise DoD related, Hickam and Pearl Harbor Bases are less than 20min away and they have discounted trip tickets for any of the tourist trips. Downside was the restaurant, especially the breakfast buffet are extremely overpriced - $18 for barely a continental breakfast menu. Skip that and go someplace else. Other than that, extremely satisfied with the cost compared to the size and convenience. This had been recommended by a native friend and I concur. It is a good deal.

Stayed just one night. Hotel facilities are nice enough and location is good. Room was smallest hotel room we have had in many years. We expected much more but at least it was clean and comfortable. This was the last hotel we stayed at on our vacation so we already knew what to expect.
