Very nice hotel in the heart of Union Square. It is well within walking distance of all the shopping, the galleries and theaters, and restaurants located downtown. You are going to pay at least $200 to stay in the Union Square area and the Villa Florence has a very competitive rate for where it was located, a half block from Union Square Park. We just parked our car at the O' Farrell parking lot and never went back to the car for our stay. A great jumping off point if you want to explore the area downtown. Be advised that the rooms shown on the website are all street facing and get a lot of natural sun light but many of the rooms are interior facing and you will not get any views. The rooms by the elevators were the least impressive since they are very small. It was mostly just a room with a bed, the space around the bed and adjoining bathroom. The one window faces a brick wall. We were lucky enough to switch to an interior room with more space, natural light, and windows. The Bar Norcini located in the lobby was a wonderful place to share a pizza and drink with a loved one before hitting the streets without needing to make reservations or wait long. Wifi access was available but our smartphones couldn't get a strong enough signal to surf the web with any consistency. Overall, a good place to stay if you want to be in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

Best place to stay if you want to be in the heart of union square. Great food right below, you can walk everywhere including the metreon. All shopping is right there, Sears is right up the street. They also gave me a 10% off coupon to Macy's for any purchase for three days! I parked in the union square parking lot right across the street for 34.00 for 24 hours. Easy, safe and close. Great choice! Choose it every time I'm there. It can be noisy but they give the option to stay in a room that is not on the street.

Really happy with my stay here at the Villa Florence. The room was very clean, but small. Comfortable bed, and very quiet. The bathroom was nice and clean, but very small. The desk chair was very worn and should have been replaced. There were old fashioned double hung windows that would not lock, which was the only big issue that I had. Free internet, complimentary newspaper. Doormen were excellent and helpful. Front desk staff extremely friendly and helpful. The area felt very safe for a solo traveler. Walking distance to many excellent restaurants. Heart of the shopping district with tons of high end retail shops in sight. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location for Union Square on Powell Street cable car line. Rooms were comfortable, but small for standard rooms (large compared to European rooms). Several food and shopping options within the surrounding blocks and easy to walk the area. Tricky at times to find space to park your car for the valet service, but the staff was happy to accomodate if you called as you were arriving. Did not eat at the hotel, but the restaurant and bar/cafe area were always busy. Noise on the streets pick-up around 3am, so if you're a light sleeper you may need the radio or earplugs. Lobby area with computers.
A very poor addition to Larkspur!06/19/2011

Do not fall for this eligent advertisment. Currently I am still staying in the hotel only after two days here. Too late to make changes. Hotel room was ok, but at a closer look shows paint chipped on walls, furniture is chipped and beat-up. Leather / plastic chairs peeling. Windows just covered in dirt that you could not see out of them, with dust and dirt on window seals. Room was very musty and damp. At check-in, we were told that the front desk could help with reservations for restaurants and tours. The next day, tried to get them to make tour reservations for the city and Alcatraz, and was told to go to the docks myself or make my own over the internet. I do not how this is consierge service? At first look the lobby rivals those hotels of Italy and Europe, but the small cafe and restaurant had allowed customers to take their shoes off and put them up on the chairs as they ate and others customers were just shocked to see these people being served in this manner. Parking is a real problem, as valet provided by the hotel but will charge $40.00 per day as other luxury hotels in the area provide this free to their guests! Other than the bare feet, the restaurant and cafe did have very good food and Italian Coffee. Union Square has seen better days as well; directly in front of the hotel as well all around the square it has become hobbo / handout central of San Francisco. Much like the days of wineno row of the old Mission District. Four or five blocks north, south, east or west it is the same! Not the Union Square / San Fran of 20 or 30 years ago with the eligent shopping and dinning that surrounded the area then.
