I used to require fancy, now I just want a clean room with a comfortble bed. Excellent on both counts! This is an old historic S.F. hotel, room's small but with 10' ceiling. When in S.F. I don't stay in the room unless sleeping, and the bed was every bit as comfy as the St. Francis, which would have cost * a night vs. * at the Larkspur. Travel tip, if you are on a budget, take BART from SFO to Powell St. station, 4 block walk cost you *, as opposed to taxi from the airport which will run you over *. Spend the money you save on hotel and taxi for eating at fine S.F. restaurants. The Larkspur is a blend of old and new, heavy wooden doors with skeleton keyholes have been upgraded to electronic card locks, elegant bath soaps & shampoos, small bath, hair dryer, coffee maker, iron & board in closet, terrycloth bathrobe, flatscreen t.v., excellent location for theaters, Union sq. & Chinatown. Nice staff.

The hotel is like a boutique style. It is cute and clean. Lobby on first and second floor very nice. However, our room was very small. Thank goodness we are not large people. Not much room between bed and wall. Bathroom was very small. Two of us could not fit into it together. Bed was very comfortable. Room did not have climate control-it was sometimes cold in room. Did not have to walk for a restaurant, bar, or shops.

Stayed at the Larkspur for the first time on a Friday night, to see the City at Christmas. The front desk and support staff were wonderful, and willing to help in every way. The hotel is at a very convenient location, close to Union Square and next to the Powell St. cable car lines. We had a great stay, and would recommend it highly.

My husband and I stayed at the Larkspur for 3 nights. The staff was unmatchable in their helpfulness, courtesy and friendliness. They were great at giving transportation advice, arranging for a trip to Napa Valley and arranging a shuttle to the airport. The location was great! We were able to walk nrealy everyhwhere we wanted! Just a hop skip and a jump to Chinatown for some great food! I was expecting a samll room, I was still sort of disappointed when I saw the room. But it was very comfortable and once I reminded myself that I could have paid twice the cost for a more modern room, we made ourselves feel right at home! Itwas an excellent stay!
