The food was exorbitantly priced, but OK. The room was expensive and OK. The internet service was expensive $10/day and slow. I declined to obtain "premium" internet service for $15/day. The value for money can be summed up by the $7.00 per bottle water offered in the rooms. The only reason to stay at this hotel is the early admission to Islands of Adventure and for the Universal Express privileges when the parks are busy.

The Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios is certainly one of the loveliest hotels I've stayed in. However, there is an ugly core that I noticed almost right away. Upon checking into my room, I decided to open my laptop and double check the Universal parks' closing times for the day, and look at the Portofino's restaurant menus to decide where to eat afterwards. I then discovered that internet access was a service I had to pay for. I decided that I could find out this information easily enough by calling around and asking, but I was very disturbed by the hotel's high charge for such a commonly complimentary service. The ferry service from the hotel to Universal CityWalk was wonderful and convenient, and the fact that you can get into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction at Islands of Adventure an hour early while staying at this hotel was fantastic. I also cannot overstate how useful it was to automatically be a part of the Universal Express program and skip lines at most Universal attractions with your room key. These three things were the best parts of staying at the Portofino Bay. We got back to the hotel and decided to have dinner at Mama Della's, one of the onsite restaurants, which was fantastic but pricey. I could not quite finish my dinner, so I had the leftovers boxed - and discovered that there was neither a microwave or refrigerator in my room. It's pretty clear that the Portofino doesn't want you to have any kinds of snacks at all - they want you to buy everything from them, and throw away your leftovers so you have to spend more money any time your stomach even twinges. Oh, and room service not only carries a typical room service charge, but also a delivery charge. Needless to say, I did not order room service while I was there. In short, I was disturbed by the way the "basics" that you take for granted just weren't provided at the Portofino Bay. The beautiful hotel design, nice bathroom, and great staff keep me from rating this hotel too low, but I was still a little unhappy with my stay. I will stay somewhere less greedy on my next trip down to Universal.

My husband & I were looking for a good deal for a short getaway and we definitely found it at the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios in Florida. Beautiful atmosphere, very nice rooms. Beds were unbelievably comfortable. I'm one of those people who usually has a very hard time with hotel beds. Not at this place! They were great. Very attentive staff, too. I've recommended this hotel to everyone I know considering a trip to Universal Florida!

The hotel was beautiful and convenient to Universal theme parks. We enjoyed the outdoor performances at sunset. Not necessarily the best choice to stay with a young child. No convenient place to get breakfast, although the in-room Keurig coffee makers with hot chocolate pods was a plus.
