Swissotel Beijing is a very nice and comfortable hotel, and in a good location. I like the most is their knowledgeable and friendly staffs. When I checked in, I was informed that my room was upgraded. I asked how and what time I should leave for American Embassy with an appointment at 8:30 am to replace my lost passport. I was given a printed map, and told to take a taxi at 7:00 am because it would be difficult to find a Taxi, and bad traffic during the rash hours. I spent the all morning in the embassy, and found out that I could not be back to check out at 12:00 pm. When I called the hotel, the staff extended my check out time to 1:00 pm. I feel that they provided both comfort and help when I had problem.

On my recent weeklong visit to Beijing, the Swissotel was my oasis in the middle of the heat and humidity. When I checked in, the clerk spoke English very well, and got me checked in and to my room quickly and courteously. After 24 hours of travel, that's important. The room was clean and neat and met my needs. The airconditioning worked very well. Yay! A necessity in the Beijing summer. Whatever I needed, the concierge was always ready to help. All of the staff were courteous and friendly, although some were not really able to communicate in English. But, help was always nearby, so it was not a problem. The food in the hotel restaurants was good - I thought the French Toast was a bargain for breakfast and I had it almost everyday ( I thought the breakfast buffet was pricey and never tried it, although everything looked good). The location of the hotel is very convenient and central- the subway station is right out the front door and the system is very easy to navigate. I did notice a bit of wear on some of the furnishings in my room, but nothing worth complaining about. Also, I emailed the hotel about a week before I arrived and requested a king bed in my room. When I checked in, all they had were two doubles. However, the clerk offered to move me the next day to a king room. After the first night I realized the two doubles were fine, so it turned out to be a non-issue. I feel the hotel was just about as perfect a temporary lodging in a far-away place that there could be and I felt very comfortable there. I will be going back to Beijing, and i will be staying at the Swissotel every time.

The best part of staying a the Swisshotel is proximity to public transportation and nightlife in the Sanlitun area. Although cabs are cheap traffic in Beijing is awful so having the Dongsi station at the entrance of the hotel is very convenient. The staff is very helpful and speak ample English to help out. The rooms are bug and fairly nice. The pool and fitness center are fantastic.

I am grateful that Ive experienced a new name, a hotel chain that denotes comfort, safety, and prestige, and I found that through this stay experience, our family could experience not only becoming immersed in the Chinese culture, but still enjoy the comforts of our own home, because of all of the amenities, location, and the Swissotel's acknowledgement of the American travelers needs.
