THis hotel charges you a $50 fee when you check in and then will refund it a couple of days after you check out. It was dirty, old, smelly, and loud. They play music down by there pool all day and until 11pm. And it is very loud. Wouldn't stay again and wanted to leave the first time walking into the room. No hot water and green jacuzzi.

My husband and I love this place - we even had our wedding reception here. We stay here every time we visit SD, which is pretty frequently since it's a 5 hr drive from PHX and we have family there. It is an old hotel, and is need of some upgrading, but I've stayed at some of the newer Hotel Circle hotels and the Lafayette has them beat. It has GREAT history (the pool was designed by Tarzan!) and the rooms are all named for classic Hollywood icons. The location is fabulous - less than 3 minutes from I-8. The staff is friendly and helpful and the breakfast is just enough to get you on your way - coffee, bagels, oatmeal, cereal and waffles. Nothing too fancy, but it's breakfast! The only negative is the AC/Heating units in the rooms. They've been changed a few times since we've been staying there, so it appears that the hotel is trying to find units that work properly. But it's SD, and we really don't spend much time in our room anyway, so who cares?

We stayed in this hotel on a family trip to San Diego. We had a pool side room with a great view of the pool and plenty of sunlight during the day . The room was quite spacious with two queen size beds to accommodate all five of us including an infant. The room had a small kitchenette which is quite helpful when traveling with an infant. High speed internet is available at no charge. A decent complimentary breakfast is also available. The parking is also right in front of the room. The receptionists were quite helpful. The location is also quite convenient with major attractions like old town and down town just a couple miles away. Although the building architecture is beautiful and grand, it is quite an old building. Therefore, the bathrooms are quite old fashioned (think 60s). Therefore while the rooms and the bathrooms are not swanky like most modern hotels, they are reasonably clean. Also there are no elevators, and even the ground floors have a few stairs (4-5 steps), so you might want to plan accordingly if you have special needs. All in all we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay there again when we visit San Diego next time.

THIS WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE HOTEL I have EVER stayed at. I did alot of research online and decided to ignore the negative comments left about this hotel, because what you see online (looks so nice LOL) and the ambeiance of a legendary era sounded so interesting and historic ! BIGGEST mistake I have ever made. The air conditiong NEVER got cool, the beds sagged, the cables were all exposed, the funiture was torn and chipped and the room smelled old !! The T.V. was so small and barely got any reception. The pool was a digusting green with yellow caution tape all around because they had to close down the pool. (4 days). There is no air conditiong in the bar so venture in and bring your own oxygen. The cement stairs were patched with a thin layer of cement as there were huge chunks of cement missing. The walkways upsatirs had lots of cracks and tiny spaces that could cause you to fall if the weight of your body did not make it cave in ! But they did not mention that for a fee they let the public in to use the pool AND that on Mondays the local bartenders congregate there as it is called "Industry Night" !! They get discounts on booze so let the party begin for them and aggravation for the people who have paid good money to stay at their hotel !! WHO charges a fee so that the GENERAL public can come in and use the pool?? Their brochure says that new renovations have taken place--LOL--the only place I could see was the lobby. DON't GO THERE. Please go somewhere else where your family, lover or friends can really have a nice time. If you do go there I'm sorry .
