    This hotel has lots of potential but was under renovation. The best feature is its location which is near most tourist attractions. The staff was friendly and informative but the furnishings in the room were substandard. The bed was worn out. The couch had several burn marks and several 3-4 inch cuts in the upholstery. The carpet was worn. With some TLC this could be a great hotel since it has a wonderful history. The pool and hot tub were great. I would give this hotel another chance once the renovations are complete.

    Stayed 2 night - 1 oct- 3 oct . 2010. the hotlel is worn down - and it is mentioned inside the hotel that it will be renovated soon. the pool was closed ...

    Stayed 2 night - 1 Oct- 3 Oct . 2010. The hotlel is worn down - and it is mentioned inside the hotel that it will be renovated soon. The pool was closed and will only be opened 01 Jan.2010. That would have been nice to know when we booked the hotel - because on the photoes the pool area looks nice. It has to be mentioned that the room rates were reduced - but that does not mean that such a thing as a closed pool is acceptable. The "breakfast" was terrible. Served in a completely closed room - no windows - and not up to any standard. Would not recommend this hotel at the present state.

    When I called hotel to let them know we may be arriving late I was told that the city had closed down their swimming pool and said that we could cancel reservation without penalty if we wanted to. The clerk did not have the details of why, so I told them that I would decide when we arrived. When we arrived, I was surprised by how old it was. The website pictures are very deceiving. I had reservations for 2 rooms, one with 2 adults and 2 children and on3 with 2 adults and 3 children. We were told that the rooms had 2 double beds in them so I asked about a roll away bed for the room with the 3 kids. I was told that they did not have a roll away bed. When I asked how we were suppose to sleep 3 kids in one double bed the clerk told me that it was basically up to us to figure it out. Needless to say, we did not stay!

    I had a room poolside it was a great deal for the money 5 days. I had no problems except the pool wasnt heated. This was in December 2009 so it really didnt matter not that they said it was heated but it would have been nice. No big deal everything was clean an older hotel nostalgic and it was more than what I expected . It has a very nice dinner resturant and cocktail lounge. The breakfest was OK I just had orange juice and the morning paper.The only problem with My room was I couldnt close the drapes at night that part I didnt like. Im from Las Vegas NV. so I know what nice hotels can be. I would stay there again poolside if I wanted to stay at the nicer hotels in downtown by the bay in San Diego I would its just that I like the Lafayette. I cant speak about the other rooms just My own pleasurable experance. I will stay there again. I like going to the ZOO the parks the museums etc. The staff was very polite and helpful I cant say anything bad about them or the hotel. Well worth the money.
