The staff was helpful and friendly. The bar and restaurant hours could be bettter, the bar closes at 10pm but at least the bartender was entertaining and accomodating. The hotel is close to the transit station and major bus routes which are user friendly. Plenty of transportation options for nearby attractions. No security bar on room door, no personal fridge in room or vending machines on property. MInibar had ridiculous prices - $4 a coke! We did manage to fit some juice pouches in there. Room size was decent and housekeeping was thorough. Poor lighting in lavatory which the mini lighted magnifying mirror did not do much to help. Lavatory sliding door not equipped with a lock either. The rooms are not even close to sound proof - conversations inside could be easily heard from the hallway but we did experience any trouble sleeping. Overall, a good choice compared to similar nearby hotels.

The Bristol is a very nice hotel in a great location, especially if you're looking to take advantage of public transit. We were one block away from bus tops which took us to Balboa Park, Coronado, and La Jolla (although the latter was a long bus ride with many stops in between). The hotel itself is attractive, comfortable, modern, and the staff was extremely helpful in guiding me during my time in San Diego.

My husband and I stayed here after our cruise left us off. We had never been to San Diego and since we didn't have a car we wanted to be in town so we could walk. This hotel is the perfect location for getting around. The room was clean and huge. We had a Deluxe King room and we requested a "quiet" room. We didn't have much of a view but the room was quiet. The only two complaints I had was that the sink in the bathroom didn't drain well and they had a louvered door that slid across the bathroom door, would have preferred a solid pocket door for those of us who have privacy issues. There was a large flat screen tv in our room as well as free internet access and a port for your ipod in the room. Also there was a DVD player in the room. The staff was very courteous. We didn't eat at the hotel but everything is close by. The hotel was just renovated so everything is nice and new. We heard no noise from the bus station across the street, We stayed for 3 nights. There are some weird characters in every large city and San Diego has it's share but we didn't find any around our hotel. We loved the city and we would certainly stay in the Bristol again. I thought the price we paid for the room was good as the location was great. We walked a block (short blocks) and a half to pick up the old town trolley and the restaurants are about 2 blocks away. If you want a public transportation bus it's steps away.

This hotel reminded me of the hotel in the movie The Shining. It is right across the street from the bus station. Interesting people are hanging around. They do not have a drink machine in the hotel for customers. They tell you to walk down the street to the 7-eleven. There was no security bar on the door which made me feel uncomfortable. The walls are very thin. The hotel itself is spooky. You cannot get coffee before 630am and the ice machines are only on 3rd and 8th floors.
However, the room was clean, but the comforter was a little faded.
