Room: 14th fl, street view, quiet, clean, comfortable beds! Bath: shower, no tub, pedestal sink (bring hanging makeup case) no shelves, or counter. Front desk: busy it was July 4th weekend, but they had it moving along quickly. Conceierge: Very helpful, ask which bus goes to where you want to go. Gift shop: lots of Chicago souvenirs at a good price, nice lady working there. Nice bar w/free internet (which I used) and Einsten's Bagels (breakfast, reasonable). Domincks Grocery for waters, travel stuff... across the street. We took advise from reviews from this site and took the train (Blue) from the airport to the Bus station (Bus 65) then walked 2 blocks to the hotel....about an hour trip. On the way back we took a cab from the hotel to the train station ($10). The hotel desk will tell you what bus to take to get anywhere they told us which one to take to the Aquarium. We did the Chicago Trolley Hop On/Hop Off tour, loved it felt like I saw most of the city! Must Do : We ate at both Giordano's and Gino's East Pizzeria, we liked Giordano's best. Timothy O'Tooles across the hotel, very nice bar, good drinks.... We ate breakfast at McDonalds (2 blocks over) cheap, then Fox and Obels Market .great food, busy, kinda pricey. Dinner was at Rock Bottom Brewery, great food, reasonable....of course the Pizzerias, and at Blue Agave, food was so-so, drinks were Good.

Our book club of 12 from the Boston area stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. Hilton Honors sent me a list of items we could request for our room to be there ahead of time., as extra towels, pillows etc. None were in the room when we checked in. The phones didn't work. Had to go to the desk and request additional towels and for the phones to be fixed. The first night one of the woman stayin in our room found a clothing tag under her pillow. This led us to believe the sheets may have not been changed (UGH). I wonder if we should contact the board of health on this? The pool was closed prime time from 1- 8 pm on Sunday because of a private party. We found out by way of memos hanging in the elevators. Given it was 85 degrees and sunny this was very disappointing. We definitely would have booked in a different hotel if we knew the pool was unavailable because our plan was for us to all meet at the pool each day for a couple of hours after sightseeing. Chicago was great! We loved the city and the people. Just wish the Doubletree was on par with the city and residents. As mentioned there is a fridge packed with items to purchase with a sensor. So, if you have meds order an additional fridge ahead of time. Also, no safe in the room. I stayed a hotels rated much less with safes.

Checking in & out was easy. The front desk clerk was very friendly & helpful, as were all the service staff. When I let them know I was disappointed with the limited lake view, which I paid extra for, we were given breakfast vouchers for all three of us for the four mornings of our stay. We greatly enjoyed the delicious free $21 buffet with omelets made to order. The beds and linens were superb, with four pillows per queen bed. Thankfully, there were no unsanitary bedspreads. The duvet was between two soft sheets. My only complaint is the lack of a fitted sheet on the bed. When the top sheets/duvet were pulled out, the bottom sheet came out, too, and had to be re-tucked under the mattress. This is a common occurrence in most hotels that I do not understand, and wish to be otherwise. It is aggravating to have to re-make the bed each night, or sleep on loose, wrinkly bottom sheets. We appreciated the coffee pot in the room. Note: Don't touch the nuts, water, etc. sitting beside the coffee pot, though, as the info brochure stuck between the items indicate that the charge is activated when the item is picked up; the mini-bar is not a refrigerator for guest use. A refrigerator in the room would have been nice, but the ice machine was just down the hall. The Doubletree location was convenient for walking to many areas of Chicago and a taxi was always available at the front door when needed. I would stay at the Doubletree again.

I booked this hotel because it was supposed to have a fitness room, even tennis courts. I was in meetings part of the day and my children would need to be watched at an closed environment. Well no fitness room, I was even told it closed the week before due to the economy but there was a fitness center in the area I could use for $10 but my children couldn't. When I was returning to my room there was a sign stating ""coming this fall new state of the art fitness center."" Then the pool was outside which doesn't work on cold or overcast days/rainy days that we had. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly.

I have stayed in some nice hotels in downtown Chicago and this is not one of them! The staff was very amicable and somewhat accommodating; however, I had to ask several times for a refrigerator to be placed in my room. Yes, there is a charge unless you tell the staff that it?s for your medicine. Otherwise, you will have to contend with the mini bar in your room and if you so much as lift for a split second a can of soda, you will be charged $5 plus 11.5% tax. Everything in the mini bar is extremely overpriced; save your money and shop at the local 7-Eleven on Ohio St. going toward Michigan. The pool is a hike and closes at 9 M-F, 5:30 Sat and closed on Sun. How truly disappointing! Just as a point of interest, this hotel does NOT have a pool! Instead, they have an agreement to ?share? a pool that belongs to a local health club and the hotel has limited use. We couldn?t believe how stingy the hotel is: we only were provided a single bath towel and it took several calls to have more brought to the room. The staff seemed confused as why more than 1 towel was needed. Additionally, the hotel advertises ?Complimentary Internet Access? but that is deceiving! Internet access is charged at a daily rate of $9.95 plus 11.5% tax; however, if you want you can take your notebook down to the lobby and enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi. Please note that there is no safe in the room.
