The location is very good, in an area that has a neighborhood feel but is only 2 blocks to all the shopping on MIchigan Avenue. There is a coffee shop (Einsteins?) on the ground level which is nice. The area feels very safe and there are lots of people all around. Our room was good, but the view was poor (however, this put us on the side away from the street and made it quieter). We had little interaction with staff, except to check in and then when we left. The bellman arranged for a car to pick us up and take us to the airport (only slightly more money than a taxi and much nicer). I give high marks to the bell staff.

There is just no reason for downtown Chicago hotels to fetch the prices they do. With that caveat, there was nothing wrong with this hotel. But it is simply impossible for anything that expensive to be a "value for the money."

Close to all downtown activities
02/09/2011Within walking distance of most of downtown chicago shopping and navy pier. rooms are well maintained and fees are reasonable.

We came to Chicago for a family wedding and were nervous about choosing a hotel. Because of previous good experiences with the Doubletree Hotels we immediately chose Doubletree Hotel Chicago. We were not dissapointed. All our questions about Chicago sites were answered with friendly specific suggestions. Great experience all around. Thank you.

So, yes, it's nice to have those warm cookies at check-in!! Overall this hotel was comfortable. My only complaint is that if you want a snack later at night, there are NO drink or snack machines. You have to pay a ridiculous price for a sprite or whatever from your mini bar in the room or venture out on the streets of Chicago. I was a bit surprised when the night staff suggested a convenience store down the street to me, a women alone, at midnight in FEBRUARY. They don't have a clue!
