I like the Silversmith because it is a smaller hotel and it is very convenient to get to your room and get around the hotel. The front desk staff is very helpful. I have stayed at the Silversmith many times and never had any problems.

We stayed at the Silversmith 4th of July weekend, and we loved it. It is in the loop so it's a bit of a walk to get to the Magnificent Mile, but a nice walk in warm weather. It is really close to the parks, which is great with warm weather. There are subways (all colors) very close making it easy to get to any location. Some of the reviews I read said you can hear the subway trains, but our room was very quiet. Hotel was clean, room was clean and staff was very friendly and helpful. The lobby also has computers that you can use at no charge. There is a great pub right down the street from this hotel that was very good as well.

I enjoyed my accomodations at the Silversmith Hotel. Located in the jewelry district of downtown, and only a short walk from the L, the subway and multiple bus stops, the Silversmith was a great location to stay at for a modest price. Some reviews stated they were kept awake by the L running in the early morning hours, but I had no issue with it. I slept well on a comfortable bed, took a nice warm shower in the mornings, and then set out to trek through the winter morning through the beautiful city of Chicago. Will stay there again...

I stayed here when I was in town for a convention. If you like big sterile impersonal hotel chains, this is NOT the place for you. The Silversmith is a small boutique property that oozes the charm of the turn of the century - the turn of the 19th Century! Every aspect of this hotel is delightful from the lobby that feels like a parlour/sitting room, to the amazing personable service of the staff. The rooms are not small but feel very cozy and are very well appointed and comfortable. The staff was naturally friendly (no forced plastic smiles here) and helped me discover new things to see in Chicago. The Silversmith is my new favorite property in Chicago!

Be sure to ask for a room away from the EL or you will hear trains go by every 15 minutes. We so requested and our stay was pleasant. Historic inn, remodeled, clean but no frills. Convenient to many tourist attractions since in the heart of the Loop.
