Sitting in the lobby drinking coffee, getting ready to check out after a two night short weekend getaway. We have been Starwood members for many years. Whenever possible, we stay in Starwood hotels...mainly W hotels. We recently stayed in the new W in Ft. Lauderdale, was an absolute delight. I mention the W Ft. Lauderdale, as it provides a recent comparison and the stark contrast between that location and this one in New York. Nothing particularly negative with the decor here - although compared to the W Union Square, you can see that there has not been the care in the general upkeep here. Generally nice, but needs a little facelift. The negative here is the complete disregard for the new "whatever, whenever" customer service the brand is supposed to bring to every location. The staff at this location was rude - even yelled at my daughter when she left her phone charger in the room. I will not go into every altercation we experienced here, as I am truly not used to getting "into it" with any staff at a Starwood hotel. What I thought may have been someone having a bad night (we all do, right) just kept happening with each simple request or interaction we had. I have stayed at hotels all over the world, and believe me, this location is nothing special - nice area, but please. The staff here act as if they are making a huge sacrifice by interacting with the public. One staff member actually started rolling her eyes, and then complained about and laughed at my daughter after she stepped away from the counter. Starwood corporate, I hope you are reading this. You have a big, big problem with your people at the W on Lexington Ave. in NYC.

The atmosphere in this hotel is very contemporary, the decor is stylish and comfortable, the attention to detail is out of the ordinary! The elevators have scented sticks, there's fresh fruit available in the lobby, newspapers in the morning, the people who clean the rooms were very friendly. The room itself is sophisticated with a wonderful bed for sleeping. The lighting is indirect yet comfortable and artful. Wow, I really recommend this hotel for feeling like you're paying for something worthwhile and being able to be so comfortable. No noise from other guests -- typical NYC traffic noise but that comes with the territory. Subways are close by, great eating places are too. We didn't sample the hotel food for anything but breakfast. They had healthy choices along with other pretty creative options.

Wow, what a disappointment. The rooms in this hotel have a lack-luster, worn out modern decor that is done in a very poor color scheme. To say that the hotel room was DARK and oppressing is an understatement---even with all of the lamps turned on and the morning light coming through the window. And where are the luxurious touches in this hotel??? The hotel lounge and restaurant are trendy in appearance and quite bustling if you like that kind of thing, but the fare is definitely unremarkable. The concierge here is knowledgeable, but he can come off as snooty & condescending. Overall, this hotel attempts to come off as hip, modern, and luxurious but it has missed the mark by a long shot. This hotel lacks substance all together. I absolutely would not stay here again.
