Traveling alone as a single woman, I was looking for a hotel in a central area that was safe. This hotel, near Trinity College, was within walking distance for most everything I wanted to do in Dublin. The shops in the neighborhood closed at 7pm and the sidewalks emptied out, but even when I walked back from the Abbey Theater after 10pm, I felt safe. This O'Callaghan's was appealing to me; it has a lot of ambiance. That contrasted sharply with the unwelcome attitude of the staff. When I arrived, the lobby was empty except for one other guest. When the clerk finished checking her in, she ignored me completely and began typing--no eye contact, nothing. She didn't address me until another woman entered from an adjacent office (maybe her boss?). She was efficient, but cold. My other interactions with the front desk were equally cool; if I said hello when I entered the building, the clerk would look at me but not respond. This occured with all the front desk help; each was efficient but unwelcoming. A side note: you have to pay 3 euros to use their wireless internet for one hour and I couldn't get service in my room. I ended up requesting reception to log me on, and sat in the lobby. Also, the only breakfast choice is a buffet at a steep 10 euros. I ate it once, and the selection and quality was below average.

  • Good Location, Great Rate.

Enjoyed my stay there. room was a bit drafty, but it is an old building, so it wasn't too much of a surprise.

Nice people very responsive to issues, breakfast extra and very expensive (around 12 euros), but much cheaper snack bar down the street. Business center also across street in sister hotel. Excellent location for all of central Dublin - easy walk to Trinity College, Grafton Street, Steven's Green almost on top of National Gallery, and 20 minute walk to Dublin Castle.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel has an old world feel to it but it is well appointed with nice size clean rooms. It is well located in Dublin in easy walking distance from Grafton Street and Trinity College. My stay was very enjoyable and I will go back again.
