We booked two rooms, as our post-cruise layover before driving home. It was close to the zoo and freeway, and the price was more than reasonable. We were given two upstairs rooms at the back of the hotel. Absolutely NO freeway noise could be heard, even though the 8 runs right out front. Yes, the decor and fixtures are somewhat dated. The toilets had HUGE old style tanks -- probably made more noticeable because the tub/shower/toilet room was quite confining. The tubs were large, so if you like a deep soak, this is the place. We all had plenty of hot water for our showers. The sink/dressing area was separated from the toilet/tub by a door, but there was no door separating the dressing area from the room. Not a huge issue for us, since we were all family, but it could be an issue for others. The beds were wonderfully FIRM. The pillows not so wonderful for me, since they were not so firm, and in fact, mushy for my taste (but the hubby liked the mushy aspect). Our adult daughters loved the hot tub and pool, and the front desk staff was WONDERFUL, from check-in to my girl's request for towels for the pool. VERY nice staff. We were given 15% off coupons for each of the in-house restaurants: The Mexican restaurant's food was delicious and the waiter was EXCELLENT. Seven of us each ordered different items and they were all wonderful, including my strawberry margarita. The Waffle place in the morning was okay... nothing special, but the service was friendly and quick. For the price I'd say this place was an excellent value. However, if you're looking for a modern place to stay, go somewhere else and be prepared to pay twice as much, because this is not what you're looking for.

From the moment of check in till the time of check out we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was professional and very friendly and had an answer for every question accompanied with eye contact and a smile. The wait staff at the Waffle place very friendly and up-beat. Food was good at the adjoining Mexican restaurant, although probably better suited for a more mature crowd. The bar was loud and much more active on Friday night and I had to cover the ears a few times of my 5 y.o. However, she indicated they made the best grilled cheese and requested it twice. The room decor is outdated, but who cares? The place was immaculate and the jewel-toned green carpet clean and neat as was the bedding. Also had a heated pool and hot tub, a plus with a 5 y.o.! I would highly recommend this hotel to business and family travelers alike. Also, very close to San Diego Zoo, which is why we were visiting.
