Even though we had been warned in advance that the hotel was undergoing renovations, the view when we pulled up to La Fonda was disappointing - the entire facade was covered in plastic wrap! I had no idea what we would find inside... But, what a wonderful surprise - the hotel inside is as lovely as ever, and the rooms are all newly renovated and updated with hand-painted headboards, tile artwork in the showers, and lovely Southwestern furniture. I had only booked a standard queen room, but the one we got was on the top floor, with a 10 foot long private balcony overlooking the Loretto Chapel, and a very comfortable king bed with duvet. We also enjoyed breakfast and dinner in La Plazuela, La Fonda's restaurant in a renovated courtyard with a fountain and charming hand-painted glass windowpanes. Because of the ongoing renovations, the pool was closed and some other areas were off limits, but there was no noise or construction interference at all. We were very happy and enjoyed every minute of our 4 nights there.

This hotel was under renovation so the spa and pool were closed. We wished we would have known this before we booked the trip. However, La Fonda is the perfect location if you are staying in Santa Fe as restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. The food and amenities in this hotel were also very good, I suggest the spinach quiche in the French bakery and the Green Chili Meatloaf in the main dining room! Nancy was a wonderful concierge, we appreciated her smile and upbeat attitude each time we spoke to her! Dennis was also friendly at the front desk and the tall bell hop was very helpful with directions. Our room was one that had not been renovated but it was clean and we had plenty of pillows and a good air conditioner to keep our room just right. I would definitely stay here again.

We visited Santa Fe for the first time earlier this month and stayed at the La Fonda. Every member of the staff that we spoke with was professional and provided great service. The women at the concierge desk went out of their way to help us plan day trips in the area. We had several meals and drinks at the hotel and everything was great and well priced. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We had a little seating alcove that gave us some extra space and we liked that. The bathroom was a little dated, but there was plenty of space and it was clean. We liked the old fashion look of things. We did have some trouble with WiFi and phone signals in our room, as well as in various other places in Santa Fe and Taos, so maybe that's due to the mountains? The LaFonda has several shops and a couple different places to eat. Best of all, the LaFonda is on the town square, and within walking distance of so much! We easily walked to the Georgia O'Keefe museum, Canyon Road galleries, etc. The beautiful St. Francis Cathedral is right across the street and the mysterious Loretto Chapel is right behind the hotel. I loved the history and the comfort of La Fonda and would love to stay there again.

For a true Santa Fe experience in the heart of some of the most beautiful attractions the city has to offer stay at the LaFonda. The rooms are a bit small but that is part of their charm. Be sure to ask for a room with a view...it is sure to be exceptional!
A great place to bring your company from out of town.04/22/2012

This is a historic hotel and if you are looking for charm you will find it here. None of the rooms are the same and you can see were changes were made over time to accommodate modern conveniences. The tubs are huge, my guess about 5'8". The ambiance in the lounge and dining area was warm and inviting and the breakfast good. The location cannot be beat with many things to see within a couple of blocks. We never used our car!
