This hotel was Horrible! I checked in for a long weekend in Chicago and immediately turned around and cancelled my reservation. The rooms were worn down and dirty. I had to step over a dead cock roach in the lobby and if that wasn't bad enough, after pulling back the sheets I found BED BUGS! The staff was unsympathetic to my findings and was unwilling to refund me my prepaid weekend. This hotel is way over priced for what it is and I would NOT book a room here!

When I called to confirm that my reservation included two double beds, the receptionist told me that they cannot confirm this until the day of check in. I arrived in Chicago very early in the morning. Arriving at the hotel before 10 am, I was told by the receptionist that early check in would cost $50 extra. Therefore, I waited to check-in later in the day after putting my bags in a storage area. After catching a Cubs game, I returned to the hotel around 5 pm only to be told that not only did they not have a room with two double beds, but that they had no non-smoking rooms. He said they actually had two double beds available on that night (Friday) but that Saturday night they did not have rooms available with two double beds. I explained that I only needed a two double beds for the first night and would be happy to move to a smaller room the following night. They absolutely refused, stating that then their cleaning staff would have to clean an extra room. I told them this was unacceptable, that my reservation was for two double beds, non-smoking. After 15 minutes of discussing the issue with the receptionist and the manager, the best they would do was give me a non-smoking room with a queen-sized bed. I couldn't believe the poor service. At one point, the young, male receptionist(I'm sorry I didn't catch his name) even stated, "Well, this is not the best hotel in the world." Anyway, making the customer happy is obviously not a priority at this hotel, probably because of its fantastic location (two blocks from a metro stop and across the street from a bus stop). The room was clean although all updates done in the past 10-20 years were very cheaply done (ugly red, industrial carpet and unstained baseboards in room etc),

The hotel was very nice. We decided to do a last minute trip to Chicago and the Congress Plaza was a fair priced beautiful hotel. The room was great, and the staff was very helpful. The only down side was the price of parking.

Arriving at the hotel later in the evening can be a hassle, but at the Congress there was a staff member there waiting to help me with my room assignment. He was very helpful in giving me directions to the site of my meeting the next morning. The room was very comfortable with a decor reminiscent of an earlier time when Presidents would have stayed there. (According to their brief historic description, there have been a few U.S. Presidents who graced their halls.) The price was quite reasonable for this Midwesterner. The hotel was located close to the Art Institute, within walking distance of shopping and businesses, and near Millenium Park.
