First, The Congress is in an excellent location. it is located on Michigan Ave. I went to a Chicago Bears game and it is only about 1 1/2 miles of a walk away. Also, everything you can imagine is located on Michigan Ave., from eating to shopping, making it all within walking distance. As far as the room goes, it was pretty good overall. It was very clean at all times. The best part about the hotel was the staff. The concierge was the absolute best!! They took care of any question we had. Overall, i would definitely recommend this hotel.

My stay at the Congress Plaza was ideal. I read many reviews before booking (both positive and negative) and can confidently say that my visit was pleasant. The location couldn't have been more perfect. I came to Chicago to explore and have a girls weekend. We crammed as much as we possibly could into the 3 days we were there. What I believe were the best attractions (Aquarium, Field museum, Art Institute, and a couple of parks) were located within walking distance of the Congress Plaza. I requested a certain room (on rumors that it was haunted), but asked that if we did not like it for whatever reason we could move rooms. We went to the room and were surprised to find it underground (or at least it appeared that way). We didn't like it at all, so we went back to the front desk and they immediately gave us another room on a much higher floor. We were very happy with this room. It was very spacious, had plenty of storage. I think there were about 20 plug ins along the walls (not sure what that was about??). The closet was massive and the bathroom was also pretty spacious. There was a bit of a musky smell to the place, but nothing that really bothered us-it was an OLD hotel. It was almsot expected. Also, our room was right next to an elevator-we didn't hear anyone come up or down our entire stay (we were on the top floor). The staff was also very helpful. Being a paranormal investigator-I asked the staff about things that had occurred at the hotel. They told me to speak specifically to one person. Not sure if I should call him out directly, but he was incredibly helpful. He gave me and a couple of my friends a tour of the hotel and told us some great stories.

The lobby and bar when you walk in are beautiful but once you travel upstairs to your room you will be in for a rude awakening. Rooms smelled old, very moist and moldy. Both my friend and I left Chicago sick and three days later still are. We couldnt breathe good at night and the beds are horrible. Needs to be totally upgraded and redone. I wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone.

We found the entire staff at the Congress to be very helpful and knowledgeable. Had a cold spell and were provided with a "plug-in" temporary heater because room was freezing from a/c. Stored our luggage until check in, made excellent suggestions for food and entertainment and, in general, left us with a good feeling about our stay in Chicago. Be sure to talk with the Johnny and Joe and the others at the concierge desk if you have questions. Location couldn't be better. Better to be in a nice, older Chicago hotel for a real "hotel" feel. Excellent quality for the money.
