    Upon arrival the desk clerk was very cold never smiled or made eye contact. The first day of my vacation my toilet backed up, so i had to use the bathroom in the lobby. The second day my toilet leaked all over the bathroom floor. After complaining for the second time i was upgraded to a room down the hall that over looked lake michigan. Only thing was i did not get to enjoy it because it was bedtime and i was leaving early the next morning.The hotel lobby was spectacular, the lounge was good and the resturants were awesome. Very old hotel rooms,needs updating.

    Would never recommend this hotel!!! charged us for a $250 smoking fee when we did not and do not smoke. have contacted the hotel three times to no resolve!!!!!

    WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!!! CHARGED US FOR A $250 SMOKING FEE WHEN WE DID NOT AND DO NOT SMOKE. HAVE CONTACTED THE HOTEL THREE TIMES TO NO RESOLVE!!!!!

    For a hotel in such a prime location, you'd think it would be great. Unfortunately this was not so for our stay. First the good: Great location. The staff were nice and knowledgable about the area and very friendly, especially the folks who handled our bags. Now the rest: The hotel is in an older building and it really shows. The hallways and carpeting were drab, dirty and old. Some of the room doors seemed like they were coming off their hinges or had the trim broken on the frames. The room that we stayed in was typical, nothing special. Not sure how well the cleaning staff did their job prior to our arrival. We found an old bunch of grapes on the floor and our TV had no remote. The bed I slept in was as hard as a rock, very uncomfortable. If the owners invested some money into the building, this could be a spectacular place to stay. As it is, I'm glad we only stayed one night...

    First off, the location is awesome for this hotel. The lobby is beautiful and the place just oozes history. The rooms were great all things considered. Our room, while difficult to find as we had to go through the stairwell to get there, was sufficient for our needs. We mainly used it as a place to sleep at nights, not to hang out during the day. We were an inside room on a lower level, so we had no view outside. The room was spacious though with a king size bed and 10 foot ceilings. Bathroom was adequate as well. But you pay for the location. Just a couple blocks from the Art Institute, a mile from the Field Museum/Aquarium, and two miles from the Navy Pier. Plus, you were only a few minutes away from a great meal at any time.
