just returned from the south seas. i only stayed 3 nights, i wish my visit was shorter. there is a strong smell of mildew in the hotel, especially in the rooms. after spending one night breathing in mildew, my friend and i suffered typical symptoms of being infected with mold. runny nose, sore throat, coughing, chest pain, difficulty breathing. we spoke to the front desk clerk who suggested we LEAVE if we feel it's a health concern. manager wasn't coming until monday (we checked in friday night), and we had already paid for the hotel! so we weren't about to just leave and lose our money. we figured we'd stick it out since we didn't plan to spend much time inside the hotel. 2nd night spent there was unbearable, up all night with itching throats, coughing all night. the following day, spoke to a different front desk clerk who wasn't surprised by our complaint, and offered us a different room. checked the other room, still smelling musty and moldy, plus also had an odor of fresh paint. we weren't about to move all our stuff into a room that smelled just as bad! again, we figured "one more night, we can get through it!". so by sunday night, we were so exhausted from not sleeping due to the coughing the previous 2 nights,we didn't have the energy to go out. we hung around the pool, in the dark, waiting until it was a normal bed time hour. up to the room at around 11pm to face another sleepless night. monday spoke to the manager finally who wasn't able to offer us any explanation, or refund. she said it's normal to smell mildew in miami b/c of the climate!

Very clean facility in the heart of South Beach. Close to everything. Would totally stay again. Rooms and bathrooms are small for a family of four.........but who stays in the room? We stayed in late August and never had to fight for chairs at the pool, enjoyed a nice continentl breakfast and felt the prices at the in hotel bar/restaurant were reasonable enough to eat in and keep swimming, the club sandwich and large portion of fries was a hit with the kids. Hammock grove was a great feature when you've had too much sun and need to chill in the shade before a night out. Overall great location and value for South Beach.

When I stepped into the lobby, it smelled of fragrant candles and the check in was quick and painless. the first room they gave us smelled musty and had a big stain on the carpet. I assumed they would do this, as hotels will try to give you the shaft when you get a discounted rate. I immediately phoned the front desk and they sent someone up to show us 2 other rooms we could choose from. He showed us a more spacious room with a view of the street and it was a much nicer room. The king bed was spacious, the comforter cozy and plenty of pillows. Overall, the hotel is nice. The pool is big and open 24/7 & it is right on the ocean front. The free breakfast is great, french toast, fresh fruit, sandwiches, juices and limitless teas. Good value. The only cons to the hotel are that the furniture and carpeting looks old. If they were to simply put new end tables and dressers and carpeting, it would feel much nicer. However, it was comfy and homey, and the maids don't knock until around the afternoon to evening. We put up our do not disturb sign and just got a linen change and towels as needed. Our tub would not fill and they sent maintenance up right away. It is not overly crowded and this hotel has a way of making you feel right at home, like the space is all yours. The hammocks in the back are a nice touch and I enjoyed looking up at the stars through the palm trees at night. My only complaint is that there should be mini fridges in the rooms.

  • 4Star Hotel? More like a European Pension, or Bed+Breakfast

Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad at all staying at SS but this is NOT a 4star Hotel! The worst is the $ a day for parking they slam you with.We found out later that there was a parking lot you can drop off your rental for $/day, so go ahead learn from our mistake. The "hotel" feels like a Bed+Breakfast or a European Pension( which is max 2 star). The rooms were old but clean, the bed was comfortable. The aircondition was working-an important point in Aug. I was there w/ my b-friend and we had a good time except we were the only couple there with no kids....nothing but screaming toddlers at breakfast and at the pool, so if you are looking for a romantic get- away : forget it , invest your $$$ and go to the Delano next door. The pool is nice but there too you'll be batteling teenagers who are splashing and jumping off the rail. The beach was beautiful but they charge $ per chair and then some more for an umbrella...outrageous!!!! Why is there still some people who took them, incuraging this "business"...???? I don't get it! People : go get your umbrella+chair at the store and don't invest $ for the week on renting a chair...soon they'll be charging us for the sand and the ocean...unacceptable! The ocean was devine and jus tlaying on our towels was good enough. THe location is good. You're not too far from the main art deco strip and Lincoln blvd(the promenade) is around the corner!
