BOOOO!! Those of you leaving positive ratings for your 2012 Mardi Gras visit to this hotel have obviously never stayed here before this year. We have stayed in the hotel for MANY years during Carnival season. We love the location and the fact that we have a window on Bourbon Street. This year was different. As we understand, new management has taken over and it is VERY apparent. There is NO way this is a four star hotel anymore. In fact, we heard they lost one star already. That's just the beginning if you ask us. Where do I start? The room rate - the maximum POSTED rate for this room is $450 per day (during peak season) and we know this – however, that didn't stop the hotel from "trying" to charge $498 for three of our six day stay. We complained and reminded them it is illegal to charge more than the posted max rate. They reduced the rate on our bill immediately. In addition, they raised the rate for the rooms and added a $30 per day "Security fee" – yet we saw less security this year then in past years. Overall, they lowered the quality of customer service. This trip, we paid more - for LESS! The group I travel with has had this same window room for more than 10 years and THIS year, the Royal Sonesta decided to screwed all the windows shut that have access to Bourbon Street. Is that up to fire code? Of course, they didn't tell us this prior to checking in. Next, the cleaning service never did replace or fill the soap, shampoo, conditioners or clean the glasses in our bathroom. There is no in room coffee pot or mini-fridge. There is a $40 a day charge to park in the hotel parking garage, yet the valet service is a joke! Upon our arrival, a small petite girl was assisting in our unloading of the car - alone. She clearly had NO idea what she was doing – loading small stuff on the bottom on the cart with a large cooler and four large suitcases remaining to be unloaded. WE had to tell her how to load and WE were the ones who unloaded the car. Then, upon our departure, we called valet services from our room to have the car brought around for loading. We were told we couldn't call down, we needed to bring our receipt down and they would get the car. We waited 45 minutes to have our car brought to us from 18 blocks away from the hotel! Why couldn't we call down and avoid the wait in the garage? We could have stayed in the comfort of $450 a day room. We faced the same situation loading the car as when we unloaded – the staff was trying to load our small items first, leaving the large heavy item to crush the small stuff. So, I guess it's the end of an era for us at Royal Sonesta, New Orleans…we'll be moving down the street where we will pay less, get more, and not have our Mardi Gras ruined by "the corporate man" running the show. Good luck Royal Sonesta – keep this up and you're gonna need more than luck to keep your "star rating"! We are taking our business (and that of two other friends who book at this same hotel) elsewhere.

Went down for four days to new Orleans and never been before the royal sonesta was my first choice of hotels to stay at because it was right on bourbon street and it was just so convenient with the location and the hotel itself is very nice and the rooms are very cosy and will make you not want to go home.

I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The staff was very helpful in getting a tour(which was really great) and getting to the airport at the end of our stay. The room was spacious and well appointed as was the bathroom. Being right on Bourbon Street was a real treat but our room faced the courtyard and there was no street noise at all. I would definitely stay here again if I get a chance to return to this fascinating unique city.

First off, this place is luxurious. Even though it's right on Bourbon St., you can escape the noise (make sure to get a room facing the courtyard). The courtyard is like an oasis away from the loud festivities. Second, the service is amazing. Well beyond our expectations. Our bell man, Vincent, would greet us by name, and showered our 3 yr old daughter with t-shirts and souvenirs. The concierge was really helpful in recommending the best places to go that were kid friendly. They have tiered levels of internet access. The free one is not fast enough to watch movies. Quick tip: There are no mini-fridges in the rooms, but we were able to get one delivered to us with no trouble at all because our kid had medicine that needed to be refrigerated. The hotel is pricey, but worth every penny.
