I chose this hotel because it was within walking distance to the hospital where my family member was having a bone marrow transplant. The procedure was pushed back, so we had a lot of free time for the 5 days we were there. The picture is misleading. The hotel is located on Colfax, a major street that leads into the heart of downtown, but the neighborhood is a little sketchy. Living in Austin, we are used to being approached for money, but there seemed to be an abundance in that area. The area is definitely in transition, and the city is working on building the businesses in the neighborhood. There are several good places to eat within walking distance. I recommend the Irish Snug, which is only a block away. The Capitol is ½ mile away, and the 16th St. District and other sights are not far. You can easily walk down there, but I think the hotel provides a shuttle. When we first walked into the hotel, it seemed nice enough. I always have high expectations and was a little disappointed, but for the price…it was okay. The bathrooms are small, but there is an extra vanity outside of the bathroom so you can get ready while your spouse, partner, etc. is in the bathroom. The room is a good size but seemed a little bare. The furniture is outdated and worn, but the bed and bedding were very comfortable. The air conditioner/heater does not have a thermostat, so we had to adjust the heat several times. We discovered that the windows opened, and only one latch was locked on ours. Not a big deal, but below the window was a rooftop a person could easily jump on and try to reach other rooms via windows. A little scary. The flat screen TV was nice and channel selection was decent. The free Wi-Fi was a much appreciated perk, though the bandwidth was a tad slow. We were located on the 2nd floor, which was supposed to be nonsmoking. With the recent marijuana legalization, I think they need to define what constitutes smoking. I’m not against smoking weed at all, but I don’t want to have to smell it all night. If you want to buy weed, there are several places within walking distance (said our driver). The shuttle does not go to the airport so you can take a cab or spend $60 for their private car service. I’m not sure which is cheaper. There is plenty to see just walking around, and the public transportation system is easily accessible. Next time, I will probably choose something closer to Downtown, spend a little more money, and get a nicer place.

This hotel seemed good in all the pictures and it did not live up to that. We had a great view of the dumpster. The room was smelly and at first I thought it was because it was old, but it was musty, mildewy, and smokey. The neighbors were loud and I came home with lice in my hair!

I have stayed in the nicest of nice and the dumpiest of roach hotels. I look for clean and affordable that is convenient. When I go to a show at the Fillmore or the Ogden, this is it! Great places to eat and drink within walking distance. This hotel is very clean, comfortable and affordable. The staff are always friendly. If you're looking for luxury, go downtown, and spend a lot of money and get luxury. But if you're going to a show at the Ogden or Fillmore....this is it! That one down the street right across from the Ogden looks nice on the outside, but it is HORRIBLE! I stayed there one time...yucky.
