I must say that I was a little apprehensive with all the negative reviews. They must have expected the Ritz Carlton on a budget. The hotel is older and yes older hotels have issues but I have paid more for worse. Tough to beat its location...within 5 minutes of all the major attractions just across the parking lot at Mile High Stadium. I'll bet it is hopping when the Broncos are at home. We were there mid week. The room was odd shaped and a little small due to the octagon construction of the hotel but very clean and the air conditioning worked. The elevators didn't creak and were fast in my opinion. The staff was friendly and helpful. Truly the gem of this hotel is its Skybox sports bar and grill on the 14th floor. Views were outstanding. We hit it when the harvest full moon was rising over the downtown skyscrapers. The food was great. We had sandwiches and burgers. Portions were large and prices were very reasonable. We normally stay at motel around Speer & I25 when in town for the same price but I think we have found our new home when in town.

I am here at the hotel at the moment and I'm waiting for something bad to happen. The bed is uncomfortable, sheets are crunchy, the carpet is stained, this place smells, elevators are creaky, doesn't look like it's been updated since the 70's including electronics, air conditioner doesn't work, and the staff is slow. I'm waiting for the bedbugs to show up.
Older hotel that needs some improvements!04/10/2012

It is close to downtown but across the major freeway and river from downtown. The room was average but the air conditioning did not work at all. It was even cool/cold outside and the room was still too warm. We had to open the window, which let in all of the freeway noise, to get cooled off. The explanation is that the system was old and it was doing all it could do to cool the room. Additionally, we asked for a non-smoking room but guess where we ended up - on one of the two smoking floors. No breakfast with the room charge. I would certainly choose to drive a little bit outside of downtown for the price and get a better quality hotel with a breakfast. Consider the Cherry Creek area.
