I am here at the hotel at the moment and I'm waiting for something bad to happen. The bed is uncomfortable, sheets are crunchy, the carpet is stained, this place smells, elevators are creaky, doesn't look like it's been updated since the 70's including electronics, air conditioner doesn't work, and the staff is slow. I'm waiting for the bedbugs to show up.

It is close to downtown but across the major freeway and river from downtown. The room was average but the air conditioning did not work at all. It was even cool/cold outside and the room was still too warm. We had to open the window, which let in all of the freeway noise, to get cooled off. The explanation is that the system was old and it was doing all it could do to cool the room. Additionally, we asked for a non-smoking room but guess where we ended up - on one of the two smoking floors. No breakfast with the room charge. I would certainly choose to drive a little bit outside of downtown for the price and get a better quality hotel with a breakfast. Consider the Cherry Creek area.

I read many of the negative reviews here and can conclude only that those reviewers stayed in a completely different hotel than I. Yes, it is an older hotel. Yes, the rooms are smaller than in some other hotels. Yes, the carpet in the hallway on my floor was a little soiled in a few spots. The room itself however was immaculate and seemed newly redecorated. The bathrooms in older hotels seem to suffer the most and develop a sort of grunge. Not here. Freshly tiled, painted, and decorated. The air conditioner worked well (I stayed there in August) and the room was quiet. The mattress was on the firm side but unlike some of the other reviewers I had no complaints about the bed. Yes, It's not the Hyatt Regency, but the Hyatt Regency is four times the price. The VQ was clean, quiet, safe. Parking is free. I dealt with four VQ staff members and they were all friendly, outgoing, and very helpful. The hotel shuttle will take you to anywhere within a three-mile radius- which covers most of downtown Denver - for FREE, and is only a phone call away when you need to return. I would not hesitate to recommend the VQ to business people on a budget to need to stay downtown.
