The location of the Whitehall Hotel is wonderful. It is 1 block from the John Hancock Tower and there was easy access to public transportation. The staff was friendly, and the room was nice. Our bathroom had paint peeling on the ceiling, but they are renovating currently, so it was not a major issue. Several times, there was only one elevator running, and the lobby was quite warm. You had to pay for Internet in your room, which is wrong in this age of wireless routers! Breakfast was $20 per person....we found a cafe a block away that had $5 breakfasts! All in all, we had a good experience and we would stay there again!

The Whitehall Hotel is a charming boutique hotel in a wonderful location--close to dining and shopping. The room was very clean and though the furniture was dated (we were told that an upcoming remodel project would fix that), it was still very comfortable. The staff was helpful, courteous, and friendly--from the maintenance man who un-stuck our window (our fault!) to the doorman. They did everything they could (successfully) to make our stay pleasant. Two small caveats: 1) There are no vending machines in the hotel though there is a mini-bar in the room. 2) At the risk of being indelicate, the toilet tissue is an abomination--totally out of character for this sweet hotel. Do your tush a favor and take your own. In spite of the TP debacle, I would definitely return to this hotel.

Hotel being located just off of Michigan Ave. across from Cheesecake Factory was the best part about it. I wouldn't call this a four star hotel though. It was more like just an average. We stayed in a corner room on the 3rd floor towards Delaware and could hear people outside and cars going by. Bed was comfortable and we were not too sensitive about the outside sounds so we slept pretty well. Room was clean but the bath tub drain was clogged so we had to call for a service. Also, there was no coffee maker (first hotel room i've been to without a coffee maker). But the location made up for it. Close to shopping malls and shops, we were able to stop by to drop off shopping bags and go out for more shopping.

I went to Chicago for a conference and this room was half the price of the conference rate at the Westin, and was quite nice. In fact it wasn't missing anything that I can think of. A nicely appointed room, friendly staff, very clean. A no-brainer, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
