Positives: The hotel has great location, one block off Michigan Ave. The room was in excellent condition and very quiet. The desk-staff, though unhelpful with directions, were always pleasant. Negatives: The valet/parking staff were extremely rude and because of the treatment received I will never return to this hotel. I did not want to pay for valet parking. The morning of our departure from the hotel, I retrieved our vehicle from a nearby parking garage. I attempted to park several car-lengths from the entrance of the hotel (bear in mind that this was not a busy time of day for the hotel) so that I could run in, get my bags, and check-out. One member of the valet staff was enraged that someone would attempt such a thing. I do not see a problem with parking in front of the hotel for several minutes to facilitate my check-out. The hotel staff sees things differently. Thus, I will not return to this hotel.

The Whitehall has been an icon in Chicago for decades. Although the hotel is showing its age, the location is fab, the bed amazing, and breakfast terrific, we still got a really cheap rate which included in and out valet parking and breakfast!

My husband and I have stayed at the Whitehall Hotel for our wedding anniversary the past two years. We love the old fashioned feel of the lobby and rooms and the location can't be beat as it is only about a block from the John Hancock Tower, Water Tower Place and Michigan Avenue. The place does need some updating/maintainance (particularly in the hallways), but the rooms themselves and the lobby areas are wonderful. Our only complaint is that you need to pay for their wi-fi.

Good news: A wonderful location - just a half block away from Michigan Avenue and very close to Watertower and the John Hancock buildings. The price is better than other hotels in this area. You get what you pay for though. It's fine, but older. More 3 stars than 4. First contact with desk was excellent. Second contact, the desk clerk made me stand there (he did say he'd be with me in a minute) for what felt like 5 minutes while he continued to type and enter something in to the computer. Good value for the money, but don't expect 4 stars.

My husband and I had stayed at the Whitehall years ago when it was in its prime. We chose it again for the bargain price and while it was no longer excellent, it was good. The air system is noisy and the temperature in the room was difficult to control. It needs some updating to bring it back into the excellent category. Still, for the price and location it was a good buy.
