When we arrived by taxi from the airport we were greeted by a friendly bellman and our luggage was held until we after check in, staff advised bellman which room so we did not have to call. Wonderful not to have to drag our luggage around! At checkin we all sat down together in confortable chairs and picked our room, went over amenities, were given coupons, and postcards. The checkin staff were all friendly and very informative about our hotel, options, restaurants in the hotel, where to sign up for tours, daily actitivies, and answered all questions. We took the elevator in the lobby to our room, which had a perfect view of the beach and the waikiki shoreline from our balcony, clean, plenty of room, closet in large bathroom with separate sink area, great airconditioning, charming hawaiian decor, comfortable king size bed, roomy dresser with mirror, internet access. The bellman was quick about delivering our luggage. We then went down to the beach, easy access from both sides of lobby and even though it was busy, outriggers, catamarans, etc, there was plenty of room for sunbathing, walking, swimming, clean. Duke's balcony, bar overlooks the beach, and they also have and outdoor patio which opens onto the beach with palm trees from some privacy. Dukes is also located by the pool which provides towels, inner tubes, is clean and staff is attentive. There is surfboard storage as well. The hotel lobby had plenty of shopping as well as a mini mall off to one side that opens out to the main Waikiki strip. Maui's divers jewelry, post office, diving shop, souvenirs, dress shop, beach attire, drugstore, restaurants, room service, travel agent to help with tours, restaurants, Seatle's Best coffee shop, Society of Seven show, beach, laundry next to sandwich shop, parking garage with valet service, spa, free wifi in lobby/restaurants, surfing lessons, everything you need. Once you step out the door onto the main Waikiki strip you are right across the street from the International Market and an ABC drug and souvenir shop which is great for those of you on a budget! The hotel sits right at the middle of the shopping and is a short walk to several restaurants, shopping, zoo, aqarium and bus. We did walk quite a bit to enjoy the shopping and restaurants (Jimmy Buffets, Roy's Steakhouse both would highly recommend) We took a taxi to budget car rental and rented a Jeep to enjoy the rest of Oahu. The bellman valet parked the jeep for free, short 5 minutes or less wait to restrieve the car at any time of the day and they would hold packages if you wanted to continue on foot before returning to your room. We ate at Duke's, the Hula Grill, Chucks Steak Houseand drank coffee at Seattle's Best Coffee shop, peppermint coffees since Christmas was close, yum!. Breakfast at the Hula Grill was excellent, and we were able to be served by our favorite waitress every morning. We did have the option to eat at their full breakfast buffet which did have an option to have a fresh omelet made to order and was scruptious. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean view at breakfast complete with tropical birds and surfers. Chucks Steak house had excellent steaks and service. Dukes was fun in the evening for cocktails, music, food or standing on the beach. Viewing of spectacular sunsets can be seen from either your hotel balcony, the beach, Duke's. We enjoyed Seattle's Best coffee at the end of the day. We traveled in November but the weather was still warm, caressing and the water as well. Take a sweater for the evening as it does get just a tad cool. Dukes had tiki torches on the beach at night and live hawaiian singers which was romantic and fun. We were able to drive our Jeep rental quite easily around Waikiki, freeways and across the island. You can also rent Smart Cars (2 seats) for cheap as well, great gas mileage. We enjoyed the Polynesian Center, zoo, aquarium, North Shore(big waves and shaved ice at Aokis), Pearl Harbor, Waimea Falls and arboretum, snorkeling at Hanamau Bay. Make sure you lock up everything in your car at Hanmau Bay due to parking lot thefts but we did not have any issues. The view, water and snorkeling is great, but the walk to the beach is from high up on the cliffs and well worth it. It was hula week so their were live singing, and hula groups in the shopping areas which we enjoyed and added to our experience. I filmed 3 with my cannon digital camera and enjoyed watching when we returned home. We stayed 2 days before our cruise, and one week after at the Outrigger and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a truely memorable stay in Hawaii. We wanted to stay forever....

This was a great hotel for the price. Nice clean well kept rooms. Some rooms had great views other not so much. Right on the beach, great bar. And they had coin laundry, so you did not have to pay huge cloth laundry fee. (they did charge you to use beach chairs ??)
