Important Hotel Information
- A credit card is required to be authorized for a 75 per night deposit for incidentals. Cash is not accepted at check-in, however the property will accept cash upon check out.
- We will be embarking on a complete lobby transformation beginning in early December which is scheduled to be completed in the spring. There is the possibility that guests may experience temporary disruptions during their stay. However, we will do everything we can to limit any inconvenience.
- Please bear with us during our enhancements. We are improving our property to serve you better.

Though I live in Chicago I booked a room for the weekend with my family. The city was hit with a deep freeze of sub zero temperatures and our heat at home was out so we decided to book a place somewhere nice instead of freezing to death, so we made a weekend of it. The Essex Inn was just the place. Reservations online were problem free. We arrived to a warm and toasty room which was our salvation. We savored the heat and tasteful decor and rushed for a hot shower. The foloowing morning the hot water was rather cool due to frozen pipes but by afternoon was running very hot. The pool area was quite chilly. Hard to keep those sub zero temps out. Life guard was covered from head to toe for the great outdoors, The fitness room was okay. I spent a productive 2hrs on the equipment. The restaurnat downstairs was decent. The front desk guy xyz was great. Everything was wonderful until my car got towed in the morning for parking in a tow zone. I swear that sign was not there when I parked :)
Would definitely visit again....soon. -

VERY helpful and friendly staff, even at our midnight check-in. pool is top notch, as is location. Within walking distance of art institute and sears tower. Short cab ride to the pier. Our king suite had a great view of grant park across the street. Small bathroom could definitely use an upgrade, but who spends much time in a hotel bathroom anyway? There was an immediate turn as soon as you would walk in the room, which was fine by us, i guess it gives the room more space, it was very roomy, but this would be prohibitive for anyone in a wheelchair! Hotel room was a bargain, it was a MUCH nicer hotel than expected, and i was very impressed. I hope i get the opportunity to stay there again!

The hotel was fabulous, on Michaigan Ave and part of the Magnificent mile, with a lake view. They offered to upgrade my room to a view, but I didn't take it because I was too busy to stay in the room to enjoy it. I was glad for the offer for a minimum price. The walk accross the street was enough to enjoy it in person. FABULOUS. It would have been nice to have a continental breakfast gratis! I spent $20 bucks for two waffles. Too cold to walk somewhere else. I'll know next time. Overall great experience. I can't wait to return.

The staff was wonderful. Great personallities and willingness to accomidate. Somethings were out of their control like noise young adults. Hotel was clean, but out of date. Rooms are adiquate but fine for the money and time in room. The Bathrooms are in need of some severe help and upgrade.
Great location, the Flat Tire is a little "Cheers", inside the hotel. Ilene is a great experience! -

We were meeting family in Chicago and we had a wonderful experience at the Essex Inn. It was easy to locate on Michigan Ave. The staff was helpful and friendly. They had an answer for everyone of our crazy questions. The pool garden and fitness center were beautiful, the only downfall we found was our 14 year old was not allowed in the fitness center. You had to be 18 or older. So we swam instead, but it was a beautiful oasis in Chicago.
